    3. A wonderful opportunity for those of you who live in North Carolina. If you go to this web site, you will find the announcement of a workshop by Margaret M. Hofmann, premier historian and genealogical researcher. The workshop will be Saturday, June 7th, in Smithfield, NC. I know this researcher will be well worth the $15 fee (includes lunch). I know that she has a web site, but I have lost the URL. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncjohnst/calendar.htm 300 Years of NC Patents and Grants by Margaret M. Hofmann 7 June 2003 Margaret M. Hofmann has published in eight volumes, in abstract form, the extant land patents and land grants from North Carolina's Colonial era as found in the North Carolina Secretary of State's holdings. She is presently preparing for publication abstracts of the North Carolina State Grants beginning in 1778. Volume One of this new series came out in May 1999. She is a native of Raleigh. She has published genealogical reference books for nearly thirty years. In addition to the publications already mentioned, her more than a dozen and a half titles include wills and deeds at the county level and two "how to" books beginning and intermediate genealogical researchers. She is a charter member of the NC Genealogical Society of which she was a Board member and Publications Chairman when the North Carolina Research Volume 1 was first published in 1980. The National Genealogical Society honored her in 1990 with the Award of Merit for her contribution to genealogy and she was the 1986 winner of the prestigious McDaniel Lewis Historian of the Year Award given by the North Carolina Society of Historians, Inc. On April 12, 1999 she received from the Historic Halifax Restoration Association the Halifax Resolves Award for Lifetime Support of Historic Preservation. The one day workshop will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church, Market Street, Smithfield, NC. The workshop will be from 10 am to 3 pm and lunch is provided in price of registration.
