Hi All, Disappointed as I am with some sites I can only give praise to Hugh Wallis for his site. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/ This url isn't a new one, it has been posted before. I had used Hugh's batch number searches, which are extremely useful, but I hadn't got round to using his middle name search. I decided to give it a try. One of my husband's Suffolk ancestors is Mary Payne MOSS b abt 1827. I have her marriage certificate and was able to find her family in the 1851 census, but I had no record of her baptism, although her four siblings are in the IGI. I used the middle name search facility on Hugh Wallis's excellent (and free!) site to search for other Suffolk IGI entries with the middle name of Payne. Several names turned up, but the most interesting one to me was - Mary Payne MOSES. A quick search of the IGI found her entry and there she is at the right time and place. I was most impressed. Then I tried a search of my Lancashire names looking for anyone who had been given them as middle names and the outstanding result sent me on further searches of the GRO and the IGI. The outcome is that a previously unknown sibling's marriage certificate has been ordered, which may enable a brickwall to come down and a further large branch to be added to the tree. I don't want to say anymore until the certificate arrives with the hoped-for father's name on it. best regards Kathy Wirral ______________________________
