    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Roper, Raper Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0VB.2ACI/5012.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Running across your Post inspired me to review what I knew about Solomon ROPER and Solomon RAPER. I am confident that most of this information is already familiar to you, as well. But perhaps you would still take an interest in a compilation of this information I Posted yesterday to the RootsWeb RAPER Message Board: "RAPER and ROPER -- The Case of Solomon RAPER and Solomon ROPER" (27 Feb 2003 7:04 AM GMT) http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=surnames.raper&m=229 In my view, the concurrent appearance of BOTH a SOlomon ROPER (of Burke) and Solomon RAPER (of Guilford) in the 1830 United States Census is the most persuasive evidence that these were actually two different men. And the Solomon B. ROPER Census record in Marshall, MS, in 1840, looks awfully similar to the Solomon ROPER we saw a decade ealier in Burke, NC. We probably need to take an additional look at the records in Marshall, MS. And somebody probably needs to take a look at the specifics of the Solomon ROPER estate Administered on 14 Jun 1850 by Walter R. Webster amd David N. Martin in Lumpkin Co., GA. My guess is that this is probably actually the Solomon ROPER previously found in Burke. I am inclined to believe that Solomon RAPER and Solomon ROPER were two different individuals, but I suspect that they were actually first or second cousins and that the North Carolina RAPERs descended from William RAPER, of Abbot's Creek were probably actually all ROPERs!
