I'm wondering if it is possible for you to look up a death in 1923 of an R.C. or W.C. Williams? It's a long shot but I know that my grandmother was working in a drygoods store in salisbury in 1920 and that she had to have met this guy, got pregnant and went to VA to have the child by herself. The story passed down was that the father died before my dad was born. This may be a fable. I am now thinking she went to live with a relative, probably her grandmother,aunt or uncle in VA while pregnant and unmarried to escape shame in the small town of Salisbury.
