She was born Aug. 11, 1937, in Rowan County. Mrs. Mabe was raised by The Methodist Children's' Home in Winston-Salem. She was a member of Trinity Moravian Church, where she served as the chairman of the board of trustees, a diener and an usher and was a member of the Women's Fellowship. Surviving are her husband, Mr. Ken Mabe of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Sharon Mabe Sherman (husband Bruce) of Walnut Cove and Terri Mabe and fiance Tony Mankins of Winston-Salem; a grandson, David Bruce Sherman Jr.; two sisters, Frances Basinger of Salisbury and Shirley Lucas of Lexington; two brothers, Billy and Ray Nichols, both of Salisbury; a half-brother, A.C. Leach of Salisbury; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Trinity Moravian Church with the Rev. Patricia F. Garner and the Rev. John G. Rights officiating. Burial will follow at the Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at the church. Memorials may be made to Trinity Moravian Church Building Fund, 220 E. Sprague St., Winston-Salem, NC 27127 or to the American Heart Association, c/o Women's Research, 202 Centre Port Drive, Greensboro, NC 27409.
