Born Aug. 17, 1921, in Alleghany County, she was the daughter of the late Ruby Swan Phouts Mabe and Hillery Cleveland Mabe. She was educated in Alleghany County schools and was a graduate of Prathers Creek High School. She was retired from Mastercraft Pipes Inc., (formerly Dr. Grabow Pipes) in Sparta. She was a member of Laurel Glen Baptist Church in Sparta. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pruitt was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Filmore Pruitt and a brother, Joseph Solomon Mabe. Survivors include a daughter, Racine Pruitt Douglas; a son-in-law, Steven L. Douglas of Salisbury; and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Grandview Memorial Chapel in Sparta. The Elder Bluferd Eldreth will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 this evening at the funeral home and other times at the home of Charles Joines, 1531 Memorial Park Drive in Sparta. Burial will follow at Landmark Baptist Church Cemetery in the Whitehead Community near Sparta. Published in the Winston-Salem Journal on 1/28/2003.
