Chevin, T. Knight, Chris.Gale, Fran. Foster (there are 5 places called Gum Branch and 9 called Gum Swamp in present day NC. Morattock River? could be Roanoke River which was called Morattico on a 1657map and Noratake on a 1671map and finally Roanoke by 1733. Found some 1720's references to this river in Bertie co, NC deeds. Powell  1978 Conoconnara Swamp rises in central Halifax County and flows ne into Roanoke River. It appears as Connoconary Creek on the Collet map of 1770. The 2,500 acre plantation of Thomas Pollack, Sr., Conoconnara was located here in 1721. Before the American Revolution a Church of England stood near the banks of this stream.
