I looked in the 1810 Census of Rowan Co. for a George and came up empty. But, the 1830 Census has a George but the age is off. Sigh. Our George left NC by 1830. Does any one out there have accesss to Rowan Co. Marriage Records? I have a checked it on the Ancestry Marriage Data Base for NC and there is none listed for a George and Mary or Polly Shepard (any spelling). But, I will add this, I have also looked for records I knew the info on and sometimes they aren't in the files at Ancestry. So, they could just not be added instead of nonexistent. Thanks again, Janet Shepard Price

This Mark Dedmon is brother to my 4xgreatgrandmother Mary Polly Dedmon, and Jacob Wolfe, they had 2 sons Jacob and Michael, I descend from the second Jacob also and he had a son named William Cathey Wolfe married to Phoebia Lee, daughter of George Lee and Pricilla Bridges of Rutherford County, NC. I think the Cathey's and my Wolfe's must have been friend or had some kind of connection in Rowan County NC for my 2xgreatgrandfather to have the Middle name of Cathey, and he was called by that name. Now I need to know what the connection was? Do You know? Thanks, Melanie Malone

I have a Joseph L Wolfe ,arried to a Jane Harry Dunn who was son of Jacob Wolfe of Rowan and Rutherford County NC. I have 3 Jacob wolfe's and I don't think I said so in my last email to you. One was a Jacob Wolfe b 1760 or so married to a Mary Polly Dedmon b 1759 in Md. They were my 4xgreatgrandparents. Then they had 2 sons Jacob b 1794 and Michael b 1796, I descend from Jacob also. This Jacob married a Sarah Unk and had a Jacob b approx 1822, and Sanford Wolfe born approx 1824, Sanford went to Marshall county KY, married a Marthis Travis, don't know what happened to this Jacob. With this Jincy being in Hardin County, makes me think that somehow she is part of this Wolfe family. I had told you before there was a Jincy on 1850 Census of Cleveland County with Jacob b 1794 and his wife Nancy. Let me know if any of these names makes any sense to you. Thanks Melanie

Dates, places, names work--but, I haven't found Great Uncle Stephensons I know of in Eliza's descendants so far (like Hugh). The Wassons here in the 1950s were either close family friends or relatives. The J.C. Stephenson (of TN) 1902 book on ancestors was in my father's possessions when he died in 1975--I'll dig thru my notes & see what Ireland info I can find & email direct. I believe I'm probably thru Margaret's side (James and Nellie). I'll email you directly on future finds/clues/links. Regards, Barbara P.S. Are these the same Stephensons who migrated around with the Reed and Carson families ?....and who later produced Adlai Stevenson ? I descend from John Reed = Margaret Carson (m 1779, Guilford Co NC). They moved to Giles Co TN around 1810. My Dad's uncle was also named Hugh, late 1800s birth. My father was an ONLY CHILD: Prentiss Oswald (called P.O.) Stephenson, b. 1914, on 1920 US Census for Fred & Lutie (Mattie Louise White) Stephenson, Lawrence County, Oakville District, Alabama. (Mother, Opal Lucille Harris, met my father when she lived at Mt. Hope). Having deceased parents & grandparents, I've REALLY been hard-pressed to find (or remember) the name of my GGrandfather! My grandfather (Fred Stephenson) died before my parents married in 1939; G'ma S. died in the 1960s. Your post jogged my memory; "Hodge Lawson" is my GGpa! You've confirmed connection to Carolina Stephensons I'd read travelled from Scotland/Ireland/Carolinas/Tenn, then to Alabama.ANY other info you may have on my White's (G'ma brother was Walter White) or Stephenson's roots would be greatly appreciated. Fred's brothers I can remember hearing of were: Hugh, ! > Garland, Grady(?), Malcolm, Arthur, Pruitt, and a sister Gertrude who married Tom Chenault, all live(d) in Alabama. Supposedly, my "tree branch" descended from James Stephenson, 1st generation to Ireland, son of a Scotland shepherd,Robert--not related to the famous England railway set, though I see postings that say White/Stephensons in USA are. My info comes from a 1902 book written by J.C. Stephenson of Tennessee, which said the others in USA (not coming here) changed spelling to a "V" & our branch kept "PH"; modern media tells me he probably erred on that! Mentioned as an ancestor, in the Carolinas, was "Long Robert" Stephenson, nickname due to height. Have you heard of him? The book referred to "the Five" coming over: Wm, James,Ann, & 1 more brother & sister I don't recall right now.
