I think I remember some postings about the legend of Tom Dula/Dooley recently, but I didn't save them. I haven't read the book, but this is supposed to be the definitive book on whether Tom Dula killed the lady Laura Foster. It documents the trials and execution of Tom. The Ballad of Tom Dula by John Foster West Pub'd by Moore Pub'ing Co., Durham, NC (date?) (John Foster West was a university English/journalism professor and I think he hails/hailed from the same part of NC as the legend--I think Wilkes Co., NC) Betty Pace

The name Sherman Parker is also a family name as below: Ray Parker Sherman Thomas Parker b. 1865 D. 10/2/1919 M. unk was a minister Wife Unk. Lavinia Parker Unk daughter Note: Sherman Parker lived in Statesville and Charlotte, NC. He went to Hillsville, Va to preach a sermon and developed a headache. He went to the druggist in Hillsville who gave him Morphine by mistake for a headache. He died as a result 10/2/1919. He was either a Methodist or Baptist Minister both have been reported by cousins. Irma Matthews a local historian told Cousin Kay Brown that Sherman Parker conducted a funeral for baby at the Prospect Methodist Church one afternoon as he was returning from his studies at the East Bend Academy. That for a young fellow still in school, he did a pretty good job on the funeral. As recorded by Irma Matthews in her history of the Prospect Methodist Church for the Yadkin County Heritage Book Volume I, Mr. T W. S. Parker was a Sunday School Officer at the church in 1887. She also related to Kay Brown that Sherman Parker presided over the funeral of a young child there while on his way home from the East Bend Academy wher! e he was a student as a young man.
