In 1841 my DAVID L. POOL sold to his brother JOSEPH POOL all or part of his portion of the estate of JOHN POOL(their father who died in 1832 and their mother Elizabeth Pool who died in 1839). Then in 1849 the above JOSEPH POOL died, and his widow Mary Jane Pool (nee Hardie, father John H.) received land from the estate of her deceased husband as below. Does anyone know where the below tracts are located in Rowan Co. NC? I believe they are near the Town Rd. into Salisbury in the vicinity of the Granite Quarry (land previously owned by Michael Braun/Brown and others). 07 May 1856, Book 39, Page 244, E.L. Austin, Administrator of the estate of Joseph Poole, deceased to M. Jane Poole, 300 acres joining Matthias Boger, Misenheimer, and others and known as the Poole Tract. 07 May 1851, Book 40, Page 217, E. D. Austin, administrator of the estate of Joseph Poole, deceased, to Mary VanPoole, 300 acres joining the lands of Nathan Boger, H. L. Roberts and Misenheimer. (I think this VanPoole name should probably be Pool) 06 Jun 1850, Book 40, Page 464, E. D. Austin to Mary Jane Poole, 201 acres, Ad'm of estate of Joseph Poole. On waters of Crane Creek on lines of H. L. Hobard, William K. Horah, and Jack Horah. The location of the land is important to know whether the patriarch John Pool was a Pool or a Van Pool. The Van Pools were generally located along Dutch 2nd Creek. I am hoping researchers of these other surnames might know where the land of the deceased Joseph Pool was located since their land is adjoining: Matthias Boger, Nathan Boger, Misenheimer, H. L. Roberts, H. L. Hobard, Wm. K. Hurah Jack Horah. Thanks, Betty Pace

I am not researching the Moore family, but.... Keep in mind that part of Washington Co. VA is now Washington Co. TN (Jonesboro area). This is the part of TN that was the State of Franklin at one time. I have read that Jonesboro was its capital, and I have read that Greeneville was its capital. I don't know which is correct. This area "flip-flopped" between TN, NC and VA territories. It is important when researching the early years (before 1800) to look in VA, TN and NC for Washington Co. information. You can read more about "the State of Franklin" at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~genepool/franklin.htm http://members.tripod.com/tracers/franklin.htm this one has links to other relevant sites: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~edwards/frank.html http://www.jcmpo.org/Funstuff/franklin.html If you type "The Lost State of Franklin" into your browsers search window, 300 or so sites will come up. In the forwarded message, you have listed Washington Co. VA, and Grainger Co., TN.. not much distance between the two counties. (About an hour with todays speed limits.) I'm not very familiar with the other counties listed. If you have had trouble maneuvering around World Connect, this may help. World Connect is an assortment of family GEDCOMS that can provide valuable leads. I have had lots of trouble! This little essay is from the Rootsweb Review. Betty Pace . Maneuvering Around WorldConnect. Exploring an individual WorldConnect family tree usually begins on the main index page of the database as the result of a search or because someone sent you a a link. The title/subject of the database, the number of entries in the database, the date the database was last updated, and the e-mail address of the database submitter (encrypted for security reasons) is provided on this page. Additionally there might be a link to the submitter's personal homepage. You cannot click on encrypted e-mail addresses at WorldConnect and they cannot be copied and pasted. If you wish to reach a submitter, jot down the e-mail address and type it into the "To:" option of your e-mail application. Navigate through a WorldConnect family tree by selecting a letter of the alphabet ranging from A to Z or NO SURNAME for names that do not include a surname (slave names, Native American names, given names where a wife's maiden name is not known, for example). Don't forget to click on the angle bracket in front of the A and the one following the Z for surnames outside the normal alphabet range. You may also search for names of interest by entering a surname (last name) or surname, (comma) given name (first name) -- Example: Smith, John. Or click on the link to ADVANCED SEARCH to access the full array of search options on a mini- scale to search only the single database you are viewing. After navigating or searching your way to an individual record of interest to you, the page on which you land will include all pertinent information included in the file for the individual including parents, spouse(s), and children. A blue silhouette icon next to a child indicates the file includes descendants of this child. Each of the above entries link to the respective individual record page for that person. Individual record pages also include ID numbers for the individual that are assigned by the genealogy program that created the file. The purpose of the ID number is to identify a specific individual within a file. No two ID numbers in a specific family tree are the same, although the same ID numbers will appear in other WorldConnect files. Because the ID number of an individual within a file is unique it can be used to help you locate the record of an individual in that file, but it cannot be used to locate a file itself. To locate a file you need to know the user code for the account. If you know the user code and the ID number for the individual you wish to find, use this formula to locate the page on which you will find that individual. http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=usercode&id=xxxx Replace the word "usercode" with the actual user code for the account and replace "xxxx" (shown above) with the ID number for the individual to arrive at the URL where this entry may be found. Note: ID numbers often begin with the capital letter "I," which easily can be mis- interpreted as the number one. At the top and bottom of the individual record page is a line of links that will include some or all of the following items as applicable to the individual: Index | Descendancy | Register | Pedigree | Ahnentafel | Download GEDCOM | Add Post-em | View Post-em (2) The INDEX link takes you to an Index page starting with the individual whose page from which you accessed it. Links to a descendancy outline, pedigree, Ahnentafel or Register report will be present -- if the database contains sufficient information to generate such a report. If the submitter permits partial or full downloading of the GEDCOM, a link will be present to show this option. The ADD POST-EM link allows you to add a personal note to the file for the individual on whose page you clicked on this link. After you add a Post-em Note, a blue and yellow pushpin icon and the words VIEW POST-EM will appear next to the ID number on the individual page with a link to your note. The VIEW POST-EM link and the number of Post-em Notes appear only if the individual's record has existing Post-em Notes attached. When should you add a Post-em Note to someone else's database? When you have additional or corrected information and wish to let the submitter and others viewing the record know about it, or when you wish to add a note indicating how you are related to a particular individual in the database. Use a Post-em Note if you have attempted to contact the submitter by e-mail and found the contact information outdated, because he or she may well eventually find your note attached to the database. When you click on the ADD POST-EM link you will be asked for your name, e-mail address, your message, and as an option, an URL and description to link to a webpage. You will also be asked to choose a password for your Post-em Note, which will allow you, the creator (and ONLY you) to return to the Post-Em Note, and either edit or delete it. WorldConnect trees are owned by the submitter and he or she may elect to remove (but never edit) a Post-em Notes created by visitors. If you should ever forget your WorldConnect database password, or your Post-em password, visit RootsWeb's Password Central http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ and have it sent to you.

Since so many names are similar, it is really a tough puzzle to piece together..! Anything you can find on Francis Asbury Ward and son, John W. Ward would be of great interest to me. I have John Ward, b/o Francis Asbury Ward married to a Martha Stevens, November 8, 1793. I tend to think my John W. Ward who is s/o Francis Asbury Ward was also the s/o Mary Watkins and I think that the initial "W" as his middle name could possibly be "Watkins" for his mother's maiden name. Sure wish i could prove this to be true. Well, on with the search. Thanks again.
Hi there... Second part of my WATKINS post deals with Thomas WATKINS and Margaret EDWARDS. On Joseph WATKINS will of 1827 Pendleton District he names a son Thomas. In our research on these WATKINS, what we have put together, Thomas WATKINS lived next door to Joseph in the 1820 Pendleton District, SC census or was next to him in writing the census down at least. Putting bits and pieces of info together we think this is the son listed on Joseph's will. Best we can figure, Thomas was born Bet. 1767 - 1770 in North Carolina. He married an unknown gal about 1787 probably in North Carolina and could have been in Rowan Co. NC. We think by 1800 Thomas was in Pendleton District SC on the census, He was wife was 26-45 years old. They had 2 males -10 years old, 3 Females -10 years old and 2 Females 10-16 years old. Then by June 10, 1801 Thomas marries Margaret EDWARDS in Pendleton District SC. Thomas and family is not found on the 1810 census there. He is found on the 1820 census at Pendleton District SC. . All children from previous marriage are gone and all that is left is children by Thomas and Margaret. I have not been able to find any of Thomas' children by 1st. wife in any records. South Carolina is a hard place to find info. It has been a while since I have did extensive research on my WATKINS. So am quite rusty on the details. But when I last did research on them, I did find some other WATKINS in Rowan county in the 1700 time period. But never could find enough on them to tie them to Joseph WATKINS or Thomas WATKINS. Any help would sure be appreciated.. Thank you Cathy
I am looking for a needle in a hay stack... Wondering if any one has any info on Joseph WATKINS with wife Fanney Unknown. Reason I give her name as Fanney, on Joseph's will, it is the way written. But most likely it could have been Fannie or Fanny... etc.. I have them in Pendleton District, South Carolina, in the 1820 census and this is where Joseph died in 1827. I found possibilites for Joseph in the 1790 and 1800 Surry County, North Carolina. But can't be sure it is him and family. The 1810 Montgomery Co. NC does not fit for Joseph and family. In my research of this family, daughter Cassey WATKINS married Jacob FRICKS. He was born about 1780 in Rowan Co. NC. Jane WATKINS married an unknown DEMRY. Alcey WATKINS married George Washington EDMONDSON. Esther WATKINS married John FRICKS. John was born about 1796 Rowan Co. NC Frances WATKINS married Mathias FRICKS. Mathias was born bef. 1774 in Rowan Co. NC. I have conflicting info on these FRICKS and WATKINS. It appears that most or all of them were married prior to marrying the WATKINS gals and it appears it was the gals first marriage. The surname WATKINS is also spelled WADKINS and have found the surname FRICKS spelled as FRICK and FRIX. Could have been spelled other way I have not found as yet. I have put all of this down here on the children of Joseph and Fanney WATKINS to show they had to been in Rowan Co. NC. It appears the ones that married FRICKS men were all married in Rowan Co. NC. I have failed to find their marriage records. All of them by 1820 census were in Pendleton District, South Carolina. I have other indications from WATKINS in Pendleton District, SC, the Watkins came from North Carolina. Some born there also. I am thinking Joseph and Fanney were born in NC or at least married there and most likely around Rowan Co. area. If any one has any info on Joseph and Fanney, I would sure appreciat it. Have been researching this family for quite some time and just can not see to find anything diffinate on them, in NC. Thank you Cathy
