Jo White Linn in her 16 years of publication of _Rowan County Register_ abstracted in one issue a year from the loose estate papers for Rowan County through 1850. In those 16 years, she got from "A" through CUTHRELL. Volume 9, No. 2, May 1994, pp. 1989-2018 is entirely on the surname BROWN, covering 70 different estates, and goes beyond 1850. These also include comments from Betty Dan Gilliam Spencer. Mention is made that several files were co-mingled, and some files have been separated into two parts. I have been told that my David Julian/Julan/Julien (b.1771-74) purchased on 21 April 1797 a lot near the square of what would become the town of Lexington, NC--it was at that time part of Rowan Co. but later would become Davidson Co. NC. It contains a puzzling misspelling of tailor (spelled taylor) and the question in my mind is whether that misspelling reflects his occupation or his middle name. Land was purchased from Michael Beard. 3 months later David sold the lot to John Wright and bought 176 acres from Wright. I need to get a photocopy of that first actual court record to see the original wording regarding "tailor" or "Taylor." Where would I get it? Is it possible that the Rowan History Room would have it on film? I have had excellent luck with the genealogists there in helping me find other records. Or would the library in Lexington NC be a better source? I am having a little trouble navigating the NC network with these recent changes. Betty Pace
Linda, Thanks for looking that up for me. It might be the right one, I'm not sure. Thanks for the confirmation. I'm going to try to get my hands on the will and see where it takes me. Thanks! Rex, Thank you so much for that info. I'm going to see if I can get my hands on the 1792 will and the 1796 one. I think the 1792 will may be the right one, but that's pure speculation on my part. The 1796 one could be it also. Thank you so very much! Rex, Thank you very much for that information. Maybe our Thomas father was Robert and not John like I thought. It's strange that the name Robert doesn't show up anywhere in the family but John does. Will have to check this out. Again thanks for your speedy help. Roberta Summers ************** Need a new ride? Check out the largest site for U.S. used car listings at AOL Autos. Claire, The will that you mentioned at Ancestry.com for Rowan County on page 275 is for William Johnson dated 1792, it mentions Judith (possibly William Johnson's wife), Samuel, Manoah, Christian, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Amy. Hope this helps. Linda Monticelli **************Need a new ride? Check out the largest site for U.S. used car listings at AOL Autos. (http://autos.aol.com/used?NCID=aolcmp00300000002851)

Claire, Would you have time to check those books and see what Summers might be listed in Surry County? I am really interested in John Summers who died before 1800. Thanks. Just so happens I am at the Allen County library, in Ft. Wayne, IN (second largest genealogy library in the world), and noticed your request. There is more than one book titled "Abstract of North Carolina Wills. I have one here in my hand titled "Abstract of North Carolina Wills from about 1760- about 1800", Supplementing Grimes' Abstract of North Carolina Wills 1663-1760. This book is by Fred A. Olds. On page 275, there are a couple of Samuel Johnson's. First is the 1792 will of William Johnson, who names Judith, Samuel, Manoah, Christian, Elizabeth, Margaret and Amy. Another is the 1796 will of William Johnston, naming Rachel, John, Robert, William, Samuel, Jesse, Polly and Elizabeth. Both of the above are Rowan County wills. The library here has those original wills on microfilm. Rex W. Bertram 132 S. I (unfortunately) had to cancel my subscription to Ancestry for a bit and was HOPING someone had access to the following book - Abstract of North Carolina Wills. Specifically page 275 in the Rowan County Chapter. There is a mention of Samuel Johnson either in a will or this is his will. I'd be grateful for any info that can be provided on what this page has. Thanks! Claire

I know I have asked this before, but in case there is anyone new on the list, does you know if there is a relationship between Wendell Miller and Martin Miller who married Sophia Rintelmann (Randleman)? Also does anyone know of Martin Miller's son who died either in Rowan or Lincoln Co.? Miller" for a long time. Jacob was born 12 Aug 1816 in Davidson County (old Rowan). He died 14 July 1857 in Davie County. Jacob married Mary "Polly" Spry on 31 July 1842. Does anyone have info on his parents? I live in NM now, so it is difficult to search. I haven't seen the Wendel Miller book.
