Hello Everyone, I am looking for any kind of lead to find the parents of my GGG Grandfather EDWARD SMITH. He was born in 1814 in NC. I do not know the county unfortunately. He was highly educated.... apparently from a well to do family. He left home at age 23 and traveled to Platte Co MO in 1837. I do not know if his parents traveled with him, or he traveled alone, or with others. He claimed his land and married a Lucinda MCCLAIN in 1842. He opened a school on his land (3 and1/2 miles of New Market). He taught school for many years. He was a Justice of the Peace. He accidentally drowned in the MO River in 1854 (other accounts say he was murdered in "Border Warfare"). His children were, Eliza, Edward Crawford, Martha and Levi D. Does anyone have a well to do SMITH family in NC around 1810 to 1815, that had a son named Edward who left to go to MO??? Please contact me if you have any leads.
