I have just joined this list in the past few days and I am so impressed by the members who support their fellow researches. My Griffins moved from Cumberland County North Carolina to Alabama about 1839. My great great great grandfather was Thomas Griffin, married Nancy Stewart and moved to Henry County Alabama. Family lore says that General Griffin is his father, General being his given name. There are Land Patents in the Coosa County Alabama and Jackson County Florida area that shows General W. Griffin owned land there. At first it was believed that this General Griffin was the father of Thomas, but now we think he may have been a son. Our Griffins were in North Carolina in 1803 until 1839. Family given names are General, Thomas, Hardy, Dempsey, Bryant, Joseph, William, and John. It could be that the father never left North Carolina. Is there anyone who has information that would help me? Roberta Childs
