Hello all, I'm usually just a lurker, learning my way around researching in NC, but I thought that I would take a moment to see if I can find others that are also researching. Maybe between us we can find something? Well, I can dream can't I? < GRIN > I have other family in NC, and lots of it [list below], but what has me stumped is a section of CAMPBELL's. At this time in NC . . . the CAMPBELL's aren't connected to the others. I'll list what I have, as briefly as possible, and maybe someone will recognize something. Charles CAMPBELL, b. circa 1730-1740, supposedly in VA d. after 1810, Vermillion Parish, LA m. circa 1755-60, Elizabeth [??Belinden??] or [??Campbell??] b. circa 1740, possibly either Scotland, or VA d. date/place unknown, but after 1765, and before 1800 > Neither sets of family known at the present time. > Supposedly resided in Augusta Co., VA? > Reported to be 'cousins'. > Possibly resided in NC during the Am. Revolution with WATKINS > Known to have lived in Oglethorpe Co., GA sometime after 1785. > Known to have lived in Vermillion Parish, LA after 1810. > Known son; Levi CAMPBELL, b. circa 1760-63, probably in NC d. 22 Jan 1817, Vermillion Parish, LA > Other POSSIBLE children; Charles Jr., Robert, William, Keziah, and Laurany I'm trying to find out if they're connected to the above pair. This group of CAMPBELL's later migrated to the part of Wilkes County that became Oglethorpe Co., GA. This area was opened up for white habitation after 1783 [treaty signed with the Indians] and many made the trek to the area between 1783-1785. Most arrived after 1785. The 1796 Tax List for Oglethorpe Co., GA lists; Charles CAMPBELL Charles CAMPBELL Jr. [as listed on Tax List] Robert CAMPBELL [m. unknown] Len [Levi] CAMPBELL [m. Sarah WATKINS] William CAMMELL [Campbell] [possibly may be the one that m. Elizabeth CAMPBELL,] [dtr of 'old' William CAMPBELL, and moved to TN ....] Laurany [Campbell] WATKINS, widow of Benjamin WATKINS Moses WATKINS [m. Keziah CAMPELL] There's a recorded marriage for, Charles CAMPBELL m. Millie BAILEY in 1800, also in Oglethorpe Co., GA. I know Charles CAMPBELL Sr was widowed, and re-married, but I don't know if he re-married in GA, or if after 1810 in LA. Nor do I know which Charles CAMPBELL Sr, or Charles CAMPBELL Jr., that this recorded marriage involved. Moses, Benjamin, and Sarah WATKINS were all siblings and the children of; Reese [Reace, Reech, Rice, Rise, Rhys] WATKINS, b. Chester Co., PA Sarah BARBER, b. Augusta Co., VA. ....residents of Wake Co., NC during the Am. Revolution ....previously in Augusta Co. VA, and later Oglethorpe Co., GA Reese WATKINS was the son of Robert WATKINS m. Margaret [______] ...grandson of Cadawalader WATKINS ...Cadawalader, and son Robert, immigrated from Wales. Sarah BARBER was the dtr of Col. George BARBER, Irish immigrant to VA and Elizabeth [?? Moore ??]; Elizabeth later m. Col. PATTON The surname, [?? Moore ??], isn't confirmed with hard evidence, and I'm still looking for that, but I list it in the hopes that someone will have it, or know of it. At present it's just speculation. I am in contact with several WATKINS cousins descending from; Moses WATKINS m. Keziah CAMPBELL Benjamin WATKINS m. Laurany CAMPBELL >From what we've been finding, we're suspecting that all of these CAMPBELL's were siblings, and married into the WATKINS family en masse. Although my side has inherited "only son" status for Levi. This is the reason that I'm trying to locate anyone that just might know about this little group of CAMPBELL's. My Sarah WATKINS was born in Johnston Co., NC in about 1763. It is my belief that her husband, Levi CAMPBELL, didn't swoop her up off of the side of the road and just run off with her. My understanding of my Reese WATKINS is that Levi would have risked a few extra holes in his hide if he had but tried. < GRIN > Based on simple common sense Levi CAMPBELL, and/or parents-siblings, had to have at least known the WATKINS family either from their time in VA, and/or were neighbors with the WATKINS family in Wake Co., NC. It is known that both Benjamin WATKINS, and Moses WATKINS, married their brides in NC before making the trek to that part of Wilkes County that became Oglethorpe Co., GA. I am also of the opinion that Levi CAMPBELL m. Sarah WATKINS in Wake Co., NC too. Anyone out there with information to either solve this long standing puzzle, or can shine some light on where to look, I'll be most grateful. For other WATKINS-CAMPBELL cousins . . . I do have quite a bit of information on the CAMPBELL line descending from Levi. Thank you for your time and patience, Lisa Grimes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My other surnames; GREEN, probably in Burke Co., NC SMITH,HAGGARD,ROBERTS,KIMBRO[KIMBROUGH], HOLT, in Surrey Co., NC ROSSER, VINSON, WEST in Johnston Co., NC All believed to have migrated to NC from VA, and then later migrated to various counties in GA, some to TN, AL, and TX. _______________________________
