Julie, I have three reasons to respond to your query about Thames in NC. (1) I have a little Thames information to share with you that I just found in the NC Archives in Deeds of Cumberland Co NC that have not yet been abstracted. These brief notes are at the end of this E-mail to you. (2) There used to be a Thames Roots List (various spellings) THAMES-L-request@rootsweb.com . If you join, I think that you will be able to hook up with a researcher in FL, Lee P., who has a huge Thames database and is generous with his information. If you do not find him in the next several weeks on the Thames Roots List, I will try and find out how to contact him, but my last contact with him was a couple of years ago. At that time, Lee wrote me the following: "I have been researching the Thames family for about 18 years and have come to the conclusion that almost all Thames/Tims/Timms in America descend from Amos Tims, the immigrant, who came to America from England and landed in VA but migrated down to what is now Cumberland Co NC." Lee also wrote me: "I do insist on telling anyone I share the data with that they need to always look at the notes in each file because in many cases the proof is less than desirable, but being all we have I record the family then show the source in the notes and mention any potential conflicts that have been noted. I'd hate to mislead anyone because in some of the generations there just are not enough records and we must act on the best we have but keep in mind that new information could change the picture." (3) I had an Aunt in Columbus, Muscogee Co GA, Nellie Ingram, who married a Horace C. Thames. They both died there. They had three sons, my first cousins, but the sons are all dead now. They were all old enough to be my own father. There are however some surviving children of these three men and several of them live in FL. However, I have never met any of them and do not know how to contact them. Now for the information from the NC Archives. This information has not been abstracted. I stumbled on it by accident and made a few notes just in case I could share it with Lee in FL. There may be more information--as I said, I stumbled on it while researching in other directions. (A) On 16 June1819 (recorded 1822 Term of Court), Thomas Jackson sold a tract of land on the Cape Fear River in Cumberland Co NC to John Thames Esquire. [There is more but I did not copy it.] (B) On 2 Oct 1818 (recorded 1822 Term of Court), Jonathan Thames sold 200 acres on Buck Creek Swamp in Cumberland Co NC to Joshua Jessop [?? on spelling of surname]. It bordered land granted to Theophilus Evans.
