    1. [NCROOTS] Andrew GIBSON - (1750-1823)

    3. It seems that this Andrew GIBSON was a Scot who settled in the "Little Germany" area of Old Orange (Now Alamance) Co/Guilford Co, NC. I am seeking information about any connections to other NC GIBSONs of the time, in particular the Joseph GIBSON of nearby Rockingham Co. I can find no connection. Andrew had a son named Joseph (the town of Gibsonville was named after him), but he was not the same Joseph. Andrew GIBSON had land next to the INGLE Mill, owned by German immigrants. Andrew married a Jane FREELAND, possible of the FREELANDs connected with the German Reformed Brick Church. Any information on the parents and or siblings of Andrew would be appreciated. The following is what I have on Andrew. The source for most of the following is "History of the Town of Gibsonville, 1971" by Melvin O. Wyrick. Andrew GIBSON was born in 1750. He became an apprentice to a silversmith in Edinborough, Scotland. When the silversmith immigrated in 1765, Andrew, age 15, came with him. This was against the wishes of Andrew's parents. They arrived in Charleston, SC. When he came of age, Andrew moved to Cheraw, SC and opened a store. About 1775 Andrew moved to the Brick Church area of Guilford and Orange (now Alamance) Counties, NC and operated a general store. I do not know why a Scot settled in "Little Germany". He met and married Jane FREELAND. My guess is that she was of the FREELANDs of Brick Church. At any rate, one of their children married a CLAPP of Brick Church.
