    3. Hi Linda and all; While reading 'The NC Gazetteer' (Has very short stories!), on page 101: Cherokee Indian Reservation. See Qualla Reservation. page 399: Qualla Reservation, home of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in the Great Smoky Mountains, Swain, Jackson, and Hayword counties. Est by the United States after the Cherokee removal of 1838. Covers 63,00 acres and is the largest Indian reservation e of the Mississippi. The reservation is devided into Big Cove Town, Wolf Town, Yellow Hill Town, Paint Town, and Bird Town townships. In addition, approx 256 Cherokee living in Cheoah Township, Graham County, off the reservation are under tribal jurisdiction. Land is held in common and assigned on a tenant system. Hope this answers your question.
