Copied from North Carolina Court Records - Abstracts filed in cases before the Supreme Court, in the Office of the Clerk, Raleigh, NC FORDHAM vs. MILLER: Lenoir Co., 1825 Phillip MILLER gave negroes to his daughter Nancy who was living with her brother William MILLER. She left them there when she married John FORDHAM. FORDHAM built a mill , drowned the lands of Phillip who became angry and took back the negroes. Phillip MILLER stated that when he gave the negroes to Nancy in 1812 she was 32 yrs of age and he never thought she would marry: that Nancy gave one to her nephew John KOONTZ, that Nancy died without issue and he took them back because he did not intend for FORDHAM's children to have them.
