I, like so many of you, have hit a brick wall as far as John Banner, Sr., who was born about 1752. I cannot find his wife's maiden name and whether he was married in North Carolina. His first child, John Banner, Jr., was born in North Carolina, apparently Rowan County, on June 21, 1784. I do have the following information about John. He enlisted in the NC militia in the Salisbury District. A pay voucher, dated March 24, 1784, Salisbury District, NC, shows that John Banner received payment of 16 pounds, 6 pence for militia service by the auditors March 24, 1784. He filed for a land grant December 17, 1778 and received 300 acres in Rowan County, which was issued May 18, 1789, entry No. 1530, Book No. 71, page 87, at Hambee's Creek. He soon after moved to Wythe County, Virginia and was back in NC in 1791 when he sold his land there. All his other children were born in Wythe County, which later became Grayson County. He died in Russell Co., VA in 1798. His wife's maiden name has been mentioned as Rackenbaugh, also Rosenbaum, or variations of both. Any new information about John will be greatly appreciated.
