The data which follow were obtained from papers on file in pension claim S16664 based upon service of William Brown Senior. He was BORN September 22, 1752 in Guilford County North Carolina. While a resident of Pendleton County S C Wm Brown enlisted the latter part of 1775 or first of 1776, served as private 2 months in Capt Richard Saddler�s company, Col David Neill�s regiment, this service was rendered as substitute for his father, the name not stated, volunteered in the following spring, served as private in Capt Richard Saddler�s company. Col David Neill�s regiment, was discharged about Nov 1, 1776 length of this service was not stated; volunteered served as private in Capt John Hannah�s company and was in the battle of Brier Creek; enlisted in York Co S C, in Capt Tate�s Co and was transferred to Capt Robert Rolston�s company, Col Rutherford�s North Carolina regiment and served as private 18 months. He served in all 2 yeaars and 2 months. After the Revolution he resided in Guilford Co N C, then moved to South Carolina, then to Georgia, from there to Bedford County Tennessee, then to Alabama and back to Bedford county Tennessee.
