    3. I continue to insist that William Avera, Testator of 1795, was not the son of Thomas Avera, Sr., Testator of 1761. Both original Wills survive among the Johnston Co NC records housed in the NC Archives. I have presented evidence for my claim That they were not father and son in other documents. In this brief document I will cast considerable doubt on the related claim that William Avera, Testator of 1795, was the father of the Samuel Avera who married Zilpha Ingram the daughter of Richard Ingram, Testator of 1780. His original Will also survives. In fact, Thomas Avera, Sr., 1761, was the father of this Samuel Avera. My reasoning is as follows: Aventon Avera, Sr was born between 1771 and 1775 and therefore was between 74 and 78 years of age when he died in 1849. His surviving children were: Aventon Avera, Jr., Rachel Avera married to Bryant Harper, and Polly Avera married to Reddick Adams. The Will of William Avera, Testator of 1795, Johnston Co NC clearly documents that Rachel was William Avera's surviving Widow and that Aventon Avera was his son. This Will also establishes that William had a son named Samuel. The Loose Estate Record for Averton (sic) Avera, Sr, Johnston Co NC, clearly documents his year of death as 1849 and names his surviving son and two daughters and the daughter's spouses. >From the Census, we fix Aventon's years of birth between 1771 and 1775. In the 1820 Johnston Co NC Census he was enumerated as being at least 45. Because he was at least 45 in 1820, he had to have been born by 1775. He was enumerated in the 1840 Johnston Co NC Census as being at least 60 and under 70. Because he was he not yet 70 in 1740, he had to have been born in 1771 or later. This brackets his possible years of birth between 1771 and 1775. It is widely claimed in erroneous descendancy charts that Aventon Avera was born about 1766 and is the older brother of the Samuel Avera who married Zilpha Ingram, daughter of Richard Ingram, Testator of 1780. However, a Marriage Bond in Johnston Co NC (12 Feb 1799) clearly fixed the year of marriage between Samuel Avera and Zilpha Ingram as 1799. The 1781 Will of Richard Ingram confirms that this marriage did take place. It is clearly impossible that Aventon Avera could be the older brother of the Samuel Avera who married Zilpha Ingram in 1779. Aventon could have been no more than 8 years old in 1779. It is also improbable that this Samuel Avera was the brother of Aventon Avera at all. On the other hand, there is considerable circumstantial evidence that the Samuel Avera who married Zilpha Ingram was in fact the son of Thomas Avera, Sr., Testator of 1761 in Johnston Co NC.
