The Thames/Tims reunion and organizational meeting in Gastonia, NC was a resounding success. On Friday night 4 April, those who had arrived before 9:00 PM gathered for a reception between 7 and 9 PM in the Gaston Room of the Comfort Suites Motel. There were plenty of delicious snacks and a good crowd. Some individuals had requested a table to display family data and materials and Peggy Tucker brought a copy machine which enabled many to make copies of each other's family data. A very enjoyable time was had by all and there were many compliments for the arrangement. On Saturday, 5 April, the group met for introductions, general discussion and sharing of information. The meeting was then moved to the subject of organization. It will be of interest that we had one or more representatives from each of the states of Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, Kansas, Georgia, Arizona, Massachusetts, Hawaii and South Carolina. All participated in the discussions of the necessary steps to organization and many offered useful suggestions. Copies of drafts of By-Laws, Membership Application form and a sample of a Non Profit Corporate Charter issued by the State of Georgia were distributed for examination and comment. The moderator asked for volunteers for the offices of Treasurer, Secretary, First and Second Vice Presidents and President. Finally after much discussion a volunteer came forward for each office. A last call for nominations from the floor was made and no additional nominations being made nominations were closed. The volunteers were accepted as nominees and by vote of those present the following officers were elected: President Annette Adler First Vice President Lee Ponder Second Vice President Sue Smith Secretary - Donna Roberts Treasurer - Sybil Dixon Two gentlemen are working on an arrangement to prepare the newsletter and post it on a web page to be printed out by each individual with the necessary equipment and a copy will be mailed to those who cannot print a copy from the internet. Their names will be announced when they have confirmed that necessary arrangements have been worked out. It was agreed that the annual membership dues would be $15.00. It was agreed that the organization should have a representative from each State. There was considerable discussion on this point and it was agreed that this would be worked out in the near future along with working out the arrangements for a Thames/Tims Library and one or more depositories for information on the families. This will require some investigation so could not be finalized at the meeting. The newly elected officers departed to a separate room where they took in the suggestions of the group and modified the By-Laws and Application Form to conform to the wishes of the group and the legal requirements for qualification for a Non Profit (Tax Free) organization. Copies of the by-laws and application form will be distributed to those that were present and those who, for a variety of reasons could not attend but wished to become members. About 20-25 who remained over for Saturday night went to dinner as a group and continued to visit, discuss and exchange information. A wonderful time was had by all.
