I am new to the list, and wanted to jump in and post some of my NC family surnames. I am working on the: BUNDY line of early NC (from the Albemarle to Wayne Co./Richmond Co.>SC) BRIGHT family (from the Currituck area to SC), HASKEW/ASKEW , ADAIR/ALFORD BOONE (Brusnwick Co.) MACLEOD/MCLEOD (NC>SC) GOODWIN (RICHMOND CO.) PEARSON (Wake/Johnston Co.) MEDLIN, MACKEITHEN, MACTYER/MCTEER HYRNE (NEW HANOVER) BALDWIN (BLADEN CO.) POUNDS (Brunswick) I have a hunch that some of these folks may have left some records in Bertie Co., but have not pursued it sufficiently yet. I have been doing genealogy for over 20 yrs now, and would be glad to share any information on these families that might help someone. Joanne H. New Bern,NC

There are two HALFORD lines that show up in SC at least as early as the 1790 census, but I haven't yet been able to make a documented connection. (My line goes back from my ggmother Julia Imogene HALFORD (1867-1909), to J. Travis HALFORD (1842-1905), to J.Jefferson HALFORD (1819-1875). Both these gentlemen were Confederate vets. I *think* J.J. was the son of a John HALFORD married to an Elizabeth, but have not been able to nail that down yet.) > BOONE (Brusnwick Co.) > MACLEOD/MCLEOD (NC>SC) There are a lot of MCLEODs in northeastern SC, and they all seem to be descended from a MCLEOD group that landed ca. 1734 in the vicinity of Georgetown, SC, and made their way west. I've run into them in Kershaw and Chesterfield counties, but I think (going by memory here) I've seen them in the Darlington and Florence county censuses.
