I have abstracts of two pre 1800 wills in which parties (in one will) obviously related to the testator (sons) are referred to as "trusty friends" . These individuals are executors of the will. In the second will an executor is referred to as "friend" although I have strong suspicions that the friend is actually a brother. Is anyone aware if it was a common practice in this time period to refer to relations as friends rather than their relationship to the testator? Incidentally, the first will was probated in GA although these were NC folks removed to GA. The second will was Proved in Rowan Cty., NC. Mike Daniel
