Hello once again, fellow listers. I'm on a begging mission again, to wit; The very elusive marriage record of my maternal grandmother & grandfather, which so far cannot be found, if indeed there is one at all. >From my mom's SS-5, I have determined that my grandmother's maiden name was Ella TOMLINSON. I have been sent a 1900 census document (probably from Ancestry.com) listing her, my grandfather Joseph Benjamin BLANCHARD, his 3 kids from his marriage to Hester Brown Wilson (who died in 1889, Cabell Co., WV), and the two daughters (my aunts) of Joseph & Ella, so I know it is the right one ! This census is of Cabell Co., WV. It declares that Joe & Ella have been "married" for 7 years = 1893. It further declares that Ella was born in July, 1870, in WV., and that both parents were born in WV. Now, I know that all the usual search engines, (especially the 1880 census) kicks out just ONE Ella Tomlinson, who was born Aug. 1869, Moundsville, Marshall Co., WV., to Alfred & Mary Tomlinson. I also have a 1900 census doc for them, from the same source as the one for Joseph & Ella, and on it, THIS Ella Tomlinson is still single and living with Alfred & Mary, still in Moundsville, Marshall Co., WV. so if it is to be believed, the Moundsville Ella Tomlinson is NOT the right one. I've got loads of info on Joseph (of Gates Co., NC), and can trace his line all the way back to 1758. It's Ella that's giving me fits. I very much want to determine who her parents were, and as I see it right now, the only way to do that is to find a marriage record for Joseph & Ella. But, I can only use the usual internet sources such as the LDS site, et al., and so far I can find no such record, and even a few folks have tried, without success I might add, using their subscription to Ancestry.com in searching for such a record. So, I'm hoping and praying that one of you kind souls that has marriage books for southern WV for 1890 to 1895 will take the time to have a look on my behalf. I say southern WV, because that's where she was born, and still was present in Cabell Co., WV in 1900, and in Fayette Co., WV in 1910. So, although Joseph was a railroad fireman (apparently) and got around all over the place and could have met Ella almost anywhere, I'm assuming it to have been in southern WV that they met & married. Perhaps it is noteworthy that my Mom had close emotional ties with people in the Talcott, Summers Co., WV area. How and to whom, I have no idea. Thanks well in advance, Jay R. Smith Toledo, OHIO
