    1. [NCROOTS] Re: Keeping Photos in Family Collection
    2. This is not specifically on NCROOTS, but is in response to something posted on this list and good advice, I think, for everyone. Please skip over if only interested in NCROOTS. I would like to make a suggestion based on how important photos have been in my genealogical research. Please keep a set of these photos in your family collection for future generations. Here's my little story: In our family line, around 1900 the old family home caught fire and the house, full of photos -- even a trunk full of photos in the attic, burned to the ground. Only a few photos survived. Via the Internet I came in contact with something in Colorado researching my gr-gr-gr-gr grandparents. This lady had a collection of photos passed down from her gr-grandmother. We shared photos. The handful we had matched ones in her collection. We had names on some that she couldn't identify and vice-versa. Now we have had color laser copies of all of the photos made and dispersed to several family groups with instructions to pass them down. This helped up prove our connection with this long lost branch of the family. Think about future generations before you take those photographs out of your collection. Have a great day!
