After years of trying, I have hit an absolute road block with my gr. grandparents. Capitola Beatrice Wood b. 12-24-1861 Rockingham, (Richmond Co.)NC d. 1904 Wilmington, (New Hanover )NC (abt. age 42) she was predeceased by her husband Stephen Byron Dudley b. 1859 Wilmington, (New Hanover) NC d. 1894 Wilmington, (New Hanover) NC (abt. age 35) In 1900 Capitola was listed as living at 611 S. 2nd Street, Wilmington. She was very active in the Methodist Church. Apparently went by either her first or middle name. I have searched the 1870 Census for the entire state to no avail. What I did notice though was a lot of Wood children living with other families. It has been suggested to me that Stephen was the son of Christopher Dudley. The 1880 New Hanover Co. Census gives his age as 21 and married, on the 1870 New Hanover Co. census I found a Stephen living with Crist Dudley as age 14, and on 1860 New Hanover Co. census found a Steve living with a C.C. Dudley as age 5. These are the only Steve/Stephen's I was able to find in the whole county. The C.C. Dudley (1860) is listed as 33, with wife Louisa age 31, along with Steve age 5 and a sister Martha age 3. On the 1870 Census Crist Dudley has no spouse listed, with children listed as Stephen age 14, Martha age 12, Margaret (?dtr) age 10, and Lucy age 4. It does appear that C.C. Dudley and Crist Dudley are one and the same, but leaves me wondering if this is the correct Stephen. I have seen so many posts from other trying to determine between all the different Christopher's and Stephen's that it is overwhelming. I would greatly appreciate any information anyone may have on anyone from this family. Regards, Barb Wilson Rezac
