    3. Thanks for your reply, Doris .. I doubt it, though, since the tankard would have been worth a very large amount of money in 1722 -- perhaps thousands of dollars in today's terms. It would have been like giving someone an engraved Tiffany punchbowl today. Only the richest Londoners owned such items. So I think it could only have been purchased by persons who were also major investors in the new colony: ie, shipowners.
