    3. Death Records are even more inaccurate. It depends upon the memory of who is giving the information. 3. AMEN to both examples (birth and death certificates). My grandmother died at a Convalescent Center just a few blocks from my mother's home and my home. Recently, I got a copy of her death certificate (about 8 years later) and was shocked to find that her name was correct, but they had her mother's first name and no last name. I got a picture of the tombstone and went to the Virginia Bureau of Vital Records to get the death certificate corrected. They said I had to have a copy of marriage license and a sworn affidavit from my mother to get it corrected. It took awhile, but I was successful. I found my grandfather's mother's name was incorrect on his marriage death certificate. Since she had been married several times and he is not here to verify, I'd have to take whatever documentation I have to court to get his death certificate corrected. That means hiring a lawyer, etc. During my many trips to the Bureau of Vital Statistics, I got copies of my birth certificate and my two brothers. In each case, my mother's maiden name was spelled differently; i.e., CARMACK, CORMACK, CORMOCK. Thank goodness, mine was correct. But I was told only my brothers could get their corrected. Neither are interested in doing so. Guess it is left up to us who are searching to continue to put the pieces together.
