    2. 54. EASTON Samuel. Report of Committee on Divorce and Alimony recommends rejection of the petition not enclosed of Samuel EASTON and wife Zylpha. In House and Senate, 14 Dec. 1801, and concurred with. (GASR Nov.-Dec. 1800, Box 1: Folder 'HB 25 Nov."). 55. EVANS, Anna. Petition of Anna EVANS of Caswell Co., NC, sheweth that her husband, Zachariah EVANS, because of debt and inability to satisfy his creditors, departed some years ago to the western parts of the country and left his family (wife and five children) in a low circumstance. The return of said husband is uncertain, and she prays for a law to secure to herself and children what may be acquired by their own labor and industry. Attested to by the signatures of twelve subscribers. In House and Senate, Nov. 1800, and passed. Referred to a committee to consolidate similar actions into one bill. (GASR Nov.-Dec. 1800, Box 1: Folder "HB 25 Nov."). 56 FARROW, John. Petition of John FARROW of Currituck Co., NC, at Cape Hatteras states that he married Rebekah Tolson in the Year 1791. She became very discontented with him after the marriage and oftentimes absented herself from his bed and board for months at a time. She "also frequented the Company of wicked and Adulterous men and was so open and publick in her Lewd and Abominable actions that many Sponcible persons knew of a certainty that it was so; Finally took up with a Thomas ROLINSON . . . then She Removed to the town of Washington and so from place to place Continuing in the Same Detestable practices Till this time . . . Your petitioner has remained in lonesome, melancholy circumstances for more than two years. He prays for a dissolution of the marriage. "She also joins me so far as to the prayer of the petition being granted." Attested to by the signatures of four subscribers. Petitioner Rebekah (x) FARROW also signs. In Senate, 22 Nov. 1800, and in House, 25 Nov. 1800, and referred to Committee. (GASR Nov.-Dec. 1800, Box 3: Folder "Petitions- Divorce, name changes"). Second petition of John FARROW dated 26 Aug. 1801, begins in the same manner as the one above, but adds the following: She finally took up with a Thomas ROLINSON & removed to the Town of Washington and after some length of time forsook him and removed toward the town Beauford and continued there some months . . . & at Length Returned again to the Aforesd. County & place and in a short time after Took up with a certain William 0 NEAL & has been with him going on two years in which length of time she has had one child and at this period of time they are living together Your Humble Petitioner has Remained in this Lonsom malancoly Circumstance for now more [than] Four Years . . ." He prays for a favorable consideration to "Finaly seperate Disolve and Nullify the afforesd marriage For Ever. She also joins me so Far as to Prayer of the petition Being Granted." Attested to by the signatures of 27 subscribers. [On reverse:] Depositions of Elisabeth (x) BURKET, Sarah (+) MIDYETT, and Christain (x) JENNETT, dated 26 Aug. 1801, which state that they had seen the said Rebecca FARROW, wife of John FARROW in bed with other men. (GASR Nov.-Dec. 1801, Box 3: Folder "Petitions- Divorce, name change". 57. FERGUSON, Malcom. Petition of Malcom FERGUSON of Robeson Co., NC, dated 18 Nov. 1800, states that his wife Mary eloped sometime in the Year 1792 and forsook the petitioners bed and board. Since that time, he has not seen nor heard of his aforesaid wife except that she is living with another man and has a family of children. The petitioner applied to the North Carolina Assembly at the November 1795 session but failed to obtain relief. He considers his circumstances to be a hardship and worries "that his hard earned labour should perhaps at some unforeseen period be subject to the caprice of an abandoned woman and her offspring." He prays for a divorce. In Senate, 26 Nov. 1800, and in House, 28 Nov .1800, and referred to Committee. (GASR Nov.-Dec. 1800, Box 3: Folder "Petitions- Divorce, name change 58. FORD, Susanna. Petition of Susanna FORD of Bladen Co., NC, states that she married James FORD and lived with him for some time as a dutiful and affectionate wife. However, "owing to the evil inclinations and disposition of her said husband, a separation between them has taken place." She prays for relief to secure her as a feme sole in her future acquisitions. In House and Senate, 24 Nov. 1801, and referred to Committee. (GASR Nov.-Dec. 1801, Box 3: Folder "Petitions- Divorce, name change"). 59. GARRETT, Esther. Senate Bill: to secure to Esther GARRETT of Mecklenburg Co., wife of William GARRETT, such estate as she may hereafter acquire. William GARRETT has for several years past absented himself from his wife Esther with no expectations of a reconciliation.
