NPumpkin2 asked for info on cemetery laws in North Carolina and I too am interested in the subject. All I know is that it is illegal to damage the graves or deny access to the property to descendants who want to study/maintain it. My big question: who is legally responsible for all the small family cemeteries in our state which are part of a large parcel of land that a developer buys? Typically, the developer buys the large tract, divides it into home sites and builds houses. After the houses are sold, the developer is "gone" but is he still the owner of the cemetery? Would he still be legally responsible if someone got hurt there? (Those old box tombs could definitely do some damage if they fell on a person!) This question is NOT in reference to any particular situation that I know of. I just wonder about it when I see the old graveyards suddenly surrounded by cul-de-sacs. E. Church Wake County, NC
