    1. [NCROOTS] Henderson County land records
    2. Louise F Hodge
    3. Hello List, Does anyone know of a website where I could find a listing of the indices of the early land records in Henderson County? I'm interesting in those early records in that part of Buncombe that became Henderson in the middle of the 1800s. Am I correct that part of Buncombe became Henderson in 1848? Thanks, Louise in VA ________________________________________________________________ Sign Up for Juno Platinum Internet Access Today Only $9.95 per month! Visit www.juno.com

    3. >I like this list when it pertains to genealogy. >Can EACH one of us send in there vote on this? >Marie Please let's NOT vote on this. We have nearly 1000 subscribers on this list, and if even a third of them write in, we'll have a flood of mail that nobody wants. If you feel you must express an opinion, please write to me PRIVATELY (ncgen@mindspring.com). I'm your list administrator, and I'll listen to what you have to say. For now, however, I would like to see this thread ended (i.e. discussion of the merits and demerits of various on-line genealogy venues). I would also like to remind you that the focus of this list is specifically North Carolina genealogy. Virus warnings, recirculated net humor, prayers, political opinions, or other off-topic messages are inappropriate for this list, no matter how compelling, touching, or funny they may be. We're entering a difficult time nationally, and you may be tempted to pass something you've read along to your friends. This is fine, but please be careful to send it to them privately. Do not send it to everyone in your address book if that address book includes list addresses, and specifically do not send it to NCROOTS. -- Elizabeth Harris ncgen@mindspring.com NCGenWeb project: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/ Winston-Salem NC area genealogy: http://www.fmoran.com/

    2. Elizabeth Harris
    3. I've let this thread run for a while because it is genealogy-related, but at this point it seems to be turning into a bashing of on-line companies. Yes, there are some unscrupulous ones out there, and there are also some legitimate companies that offer data to subscribers only. It's up to you to decide whether what a for-pay company is offering is worth what they're asking. I think it's time now to get back to our focus of real North Carolina genealogy. Please, no more messages on this "8 New Databases" topic. 2. I think we need to stay away from sites like this. There is so much info out there that is free. With so many more people out there putting their families together. So many free web sites that people share, pictures and everything. More than what you will ever find on ancestry and some of those sites. The more people like us that share our family info with each other, the less people would depend or get taken in by some of these so called family history sites. Save your money and put it towards dependable research. You have to work hard to put these histories together, it isn't easy, but so worth it. Beulah
