I will always remember the white deer story. Thank you for sharing this with us. I took my nephew hunting for the first time this year and he asked me where do white deer come from, I told him about genetics. I will now tell him this story! I remember looking under Cyndi's lists for VA, and rootsweb and finding a list of early VA passengers. I found my ancestors in Isle of Wight,VA. In my research it said the land of the "Lost Colony" is now called Isle of Wight. I think there is a great deal about it on the net. Hello, Does anyone know the list of passengers on the first or second ships arriving on the coast of NC? The first one with John White, whose granddaughter, Virginia Dare, was the first white child born here and the second one after that colony of people disappeared? Thank you, Joy
Good Evening Everyone, I have been playing around in the North Carolina Archives this evening and I came across "List of Immigrants brought to Bath County Nc 1695-1702 for which land was granted to the person bringing them, or inducing them to come" Can someone tell me where Bath County is or was. A query was made recently about counties who have maps done by Fred Hughes. Yadkin County has such a map and there is also a "Index to Fred Hughes' "Historic Land Grant Map of Yadkin County". It is reproduced in 1993 by the Yadkin County Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc., P. O. Box 1250, Yadkinville, NC 27055. Sorry, I don't know the current cost. Tonight is the Grand Opening of the Mid-Atlantic Roots Network at: http://midatlantic.rootsweb.com/ As part of the Grand Opening the FamilyHart online database was updated today. The FamilyHart database contains over 205,000 linked names of people from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina and other locations. Many of the new additions for this update come from Washington, Frederick and Garrett counties in Maryland; from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia; from the southern counties of Pennsylvania; from Davidson, Iredell, Lincoln, and Gaston counties of North Carolina and from West Virginia. There are many new Sturm, Hollinger, Glatffelder, Rhyne, Kauffman, and other family descendants added. Many Brethren and Mennonite names have been added with this update. Our thanks goes to all who have contributed to make this possible, especially our friends at Rootsweb who so graciously host this site. Thanks!!! Don & Jeanine FamilyHart

Cindy, this is a really long shot, but couldn't help but wonder. My grandfather was Jesse Emmett Richardson (born in MO in 1880) and his first wife was Margaret Mendenhall. The two names in your post made me sit up and take notice. His father was W. James Richardson (born in MO in 1855) and his grandfather was B. B. (yes, only initials so far) born in KY in 1828. I know, I know, KY and MO are not NC but I have searched for over 30 years and can't find anything more than this. Is there any possibility of some kind of connection here? I believe Margaret Mendenhall was the daughter of Tamer Mendenhall. With 40 million Richardsons, mine are terribly elusive.
