    3. Do you happen to have a John Lee married to a Avie Moore? I am looking for them. Avie was in Granville County NC in 1870 but disappears after that. John Lee and Avie had a daughter Avie who lived and died in Vance County NC and was married to William J. Perry and Hugh B. May. Thanks. 3. Hello, Is there anyone on the list who can give me information about the Rook Cemetery? Is there a cemetery book in any library that one of you has visited which would have the tombstone inscriptions from this cemetery? If so, would someone be willing to make a copy of it and mail it to me? I will gladly pay for gas, copying, and mailing costs. I would love to hear from anyone who might know something about this cemetery. Thank you, Jean Hancock Name Latitude Longitude USGS 7.5' Map Rook Cemetery 363128N 0774146W Barley

    1. Re: [NCROOTS] Fw: FREE Holiday gift from Ancestry
    2. Please Joyce tell me the secret to getting a Free Holiday Gift out of Ancestry Com. I cannot even get one record of census, and I tried three surnames, and all had hits. But, when I try to open, I see "Data & Type-PC Query" Why do they say free when it is really not available to the Guest? Is it just me or can other people open Ancestry Com census, and actually see a census record? Thanks Lynn Hulette

    3. Janet and List, For those interested in visiting the NCGenWeb Archives, you can go to this URL: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/ncfiles.htm It will show a listing of the counties for NC, click on the one of your choice and it will bring up all documents that folks have donated as of date. Remember to also click on the other county link as well on each page. Say for instance, you go to Stanly County's Archive site, you will also find a link for Stanly County's Page as well at the bottom of the Archive page. Both sites will have wonderful info. What you may find on one site may not be on the other, and vice versa, so it is always best to check both. Also on the above URL, you can locate a link that is called USGenWeb Archives Table of Contents which will lead you to a Site that lists all states with links. Good Luck and Happy Hunting! 1. [NCROOTS] MURROW Photo Found
    2. King, Ann
    3. While browsing in an antique store over the weekend, I found a very clear photograph of a young boy standing on a chair, approx. 2 or 3 yrs. old. On the back of the photograph was the name: S. J. MURROW, JR. If anyone out there is researching MURROW, you might be interested to know the photograph is at E&M Furniture in Elgin, Texas. I found it at the back of the store on a large display shelf. I hope you don't mind my posting this message here, but I try to make it a habit to look for names on old photographs as I rummage through antique and junk stores. I hope this photo can find its way home.

    1. [NCROOTS] The Trading Path Preservation Association
    2. Larry Noah
    3. The purpose of the above association is to preserve, promote and study remnants of the historic Trading Path of the Southeastern Piedmont. To quote from thier website at http://www.tradingpath.org/: "The Trading Path was a transportation corridor defined by river crossings connected to one another by trails. In colonial times it linked the James River colonial settlements to the Catawba and Cherokee towns in the Carolinas and Georgia. It served Indian commerce prior to European colonization, and it served as one of the principle avenues for European penetration of the Piedmont of the Southeastern United States." There is an excellent 'White Paper' on the site that gives the history of The Trading Path. This will give you some insight on how our ancestors 'settled' this part of North Carolina. 2. Elizabeth Harris
    3. >Can someone on the list tell me if Macon co. NC has it's own mail list? There is an NCMACON list, but I don't know how active it is. To subscribe, send a message to NCMACON-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com with a blank subject line and the word SUBSCRIBE in the body of the message. To generalize, there is a list at rootsweb.com for every NC county. The subscription procedure will be the same for all, and the name of the list will be analogous to NCMACON-L, up to the first six letters of the county name, e.g. NCALAMAN-L for Alamance County NCGUILFO-L for Guilford County NCORANGE-L for Orange County NCWAKE-L for Wake County etc. There are also additional lists for some counties on other servers. You should be able to reach these from the NCGenWeb pages for those counties, which are listed on the NCGenWeb home page in my signature below. 1. [NCROOTS] back to genealogy
    2. Elizabeth Harris
    3. Barbara Bonham has returned control of this list to me, and I hope that we can now resume our normal programming. Let's get back to NC genealogy immediately. If anyone has further comments, complaints, suggestions, etc. about management of this list, please send them to me PRIVATELY, not to the whole list. I've already told the subscribers to the list formed last week by Neal Caskey that I am back as list manager here. At this point it looks as if both lists will continue, and I hope that they will be able to complement rather than duplicate each other. If you know of people who unsubscribed from this list last week but did not then subscribe to the alternative list, please encourage them to rejoin us here. Thank you all for your patience, support and kind words during this crisis. Elizabeth Harris ncgen@mindspring.com state coordinator for NCGenWeb: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/

    3. Can someone on the list tell me if Macon co. NC has it's own mail list? I have just discovered there were 2 Pack families living there in 1840. It looks like it could be father and son living next door to each other. I am looking at the Macon co. NC website now and don't see anywhere to subcribe to one so...........Please let me know if possible. This may be the start of making a tiny hairline crack in my brick wall. ( I hope). Thanks, Patty Brock
