Could I please have the address again to NARA? I accidentally deleted it. I am in need of obtaining the Confederate service records for Baker Perry Boyce Jr. of Perquimans County, N.C. He is reported to have been in D Company, 66th North Carolina Infantry Regiment. In Tennessee we have a two volume set "Tennesseans in the Civil War". Is there such a book for North Carolina? If so, could someone please do a lookup to confirm the unit Baker P. Boyce served in? Thanks! Will Smith ============================================================ Sleep tight America! I am looking for record of the marriage of John WILLIAMS and Mirah ROSSON somewhere in northwestern NC, 1840's. I do not know the county. Thank you very much. Kathryne
This is from History of NC Baptist by Paschal, Volume II. Muddy Creek Baptist is located two miles southward from the present town of Clemmons(Forsyth county). The Baptist in this section had been holding meetings since 178l. In 1813 the church became a member of the Yadkin Association. Its pastor was Elder Peter Potts, who in 1804, was a delegate from the Fork's Church; He continued as pastor until 1832.....In 1837 the church became extinct, but in 1866 was reconstituted. I don't know if this is the Muddy Creek the person was asking about. Clemmons is just over the Davidson county line in Forsyth county. I also checked to see where Muddy Creek flowed, and found at least 5 counties with a Muddy Creek located in it. Cindy in NC
Hi Stephanie, I went to your web page. Genealogy is very compelling isn't it? I have just started looking in NC because it is listed as the place of birth of my ggg-grandparents, John WILLIAMS and Mirah ROSSON. No idea where, but sometime in the early 1800's. It seems to me that I have come across the name BREEZE in my search, but it would not have been in NC or VA because I haven't looked there. Do you know if you have anyone in Illinois or Indiana? Good luck in your research. It can be a challenge. My husband is adopted. All we have is his original name - ROSS. Kathryne
Dear List, Here is my brick wall: I am hoping to find some information on Gallant (aka Garland, Garlint) Ayers/Ayres. Gallant is believed to have been born around 1775 in VA. He is listed in Surry County NC and in Buncombe County NC census. His will was Filed in Buncombe County in 1831, and he died in Yancey county NC. He paid taxes in Franklin County Ga, in 1807 also. He witnessed the will of Mordica Mendenhallin Guilford Count in 1803. Although I have much info on his descendants, I have been unable to locate parents or siblings. Old family rumor is that his mother was Cherokee, and that is why we can't find information. This is unsubstantiated rumor. Can anyone out there help? Any information would be MUCH APPRECIATED!!! Thanks in advance for anything sent my way! Michele Ayers Donnelly micheledonnelly@prodigy.net (Please respond to this e-mail address)

Hope this helps. Kathryne I am searching for John WILLIAMS and Mirah ROSSON, both born in NC, somewhere, first decade 1800's.

hello again - sorry, but i forgot to ask in my previous post...my great grandfather's occupation is given as "express messenger". does anyone know what that was, or is? also, after his wife's name, it lists "W, F, 30, Wife, K/H, NC, NC, NC". i know what the codes are for up to the "K/H". what does that stand for? thanks. julie thames howell, jax, fla researching surnames: THAMES and DUDLEY
hi everyone - i hope that each of you had a wonderful christmas and that you have a safe and happy new year. i had a great genealogy christmas present - on christmas eve i received photocopies of some records of my father's family in new hanover county, n.c. this is particularly nice since they were among those people we all could swear were aliens, etc. on the information from the 1880 federal census for new hanover co, it give the person's name, then lists several "codes", most of which (white, male, the age, the person's profession) are understandable. however, after giving what the person does for a living, there are three codes, obviously state or country codes, i.e. "NC", "SC", "Scot". my question is this: what do these three state/country codes stand for? i could guess at maybe 'place of birth' or 'place of residence', but what about the third one? can someone on the list tell me what these three state codes (only a few are for a country) denote? thanks in advance. julie thames howell, jax, fla researching surnames: THAMES and DUDLEY

Hello, Does anyone happen to know where Muddy Creek Baptist Church (circa 1789) might be located .....and even better...know where a picture might be located ? I received an excerpt from a document that indicated the Mullikins gave land for the church and that some of the church members were "the Hamptons, Paynes, Spaughs, Douthits [my line], Packs, Brindles, Haynes, Cooks....Jarvis families". Thank you....Malinda Jones
