Good Morning Patty, Cindy and Everyone, I have a quick question here (am really confused now), and maybe someone will be able to answer my question. I thought it was illegal (especially in NC during that time) for a white person to marry an Indian. I have read this several times. According to this, such was not the case ?? Any insight greatly appreciated. Thank you. There is only one marriage listed for Absalom it reads: Strutton,Absalom and Dorcas Shearman, 25 Oct 1806; John Kerbo bondsman. Marriages to Native Americans were considered intermarriages and sometimes this appears on the bonds. Cindy in NC Patty Brock wrote: > I need someone's expertise with a marriage bond. Does any one know if there are records of a cemetery in Pickens County near the Saluda River? It was on the land of John Lathem. The land description is in the deed of his land which was sold after his death. I am trying to find if he and his family are buried there. He died in 1836 I think. Wanda

Hello all, I'm hoping that by running my Travis info by you all, someone will recognize this and be able to help. I'm looking for information on Sarah TRAVIS, born 1802 in Jackson County, GA. She married Lewis MOORE of NC in NC. (I don't know the counties of either his birth or their marriage.) I descend from their daughter Elizabeth. Sarah had a brother, Isaac, who was born 1796 in Jackson County, GA, and their father was David TRAVIS, who I am told, was born in New York, but I am also told that he could have been born in NC. Do any NC Travis researchers have any insight or opinion into this ? I need someone's expertise with a marriage bond. The year is 1806 in Wilkes co. NC. The marriage bond says it is an intermarriage. What would that mean for that time period? Also if anyone has any marriage books for Wilkes co. could you please see if there is one for Absolum Strutton/Stratton. Supposedly Absolum had an intermarriage in 1806 but this doesn't explain his first son's birth being in 1799 unless they had children out of wedlock. Can anyone help me? I am hoping that Absolum had an earlier marriage. Thanks, Patty Brock
I just updated my web page with my NC connections. Stop by and see if we have connection. http://home.cfl.rr.com/gatormoore/index.htm Jim Moore

Hello, I found information in the 1870 census in Sampson, NC but nothing before that in the County Library. Where can I find the 1840-1860 records or is there a slave schedule that would give me that information? The family line is a mixture of White, Black and Indian. In the 1870 census most of my relatives were considered mulatto for race. They were sharecroppers in the late 1880 to early 1900's and owned land, too. I would like information on Land, Deeds and Wills also. I know the WEST. MCLAMB and RAYNOR's owned land. Researching: SAMPSON CO: WEST, BAREFOOT, DRAUGHON, WILLIAMS and MCLAMB Silas West b. 1833, Winifred "Winnie" Barefoot West b. 1840., Westbrook Township, Blackmans Mill, Dwelling 38 in 1870 census. Need information on their parentage and siblings. Sampson and Isabel (Draughon) Williams, unknown B/M/D Dublin b 1835 and Eliza. (Hobbs) McLamb, b 1837, Halls Township, Sampson Co. NC. He was born in slavery came from Cumberland County. WAYNE CO: MATHIS/MATHEWS/MATTHEWS and RAYNOR WALTER MATHIS B.1986, Mother Laura Matthews (Mathis) could be either or date of b/d unknown., DUPLIN CO. Walter moved to Sampson, Duplin, Sampson and back to Wayne in his life time. Gary Raynor and Hoid Raynor, dates unknown for both lived in a community called Granthan, near Goldsboro, NC, Both married into the McLamb Family JOHNSTON CO: WILLIAMS David William and Robert Williams, Smithfield, NC. David is still living, I hear parents were Isabel and Sampson Williams.. CUMBERLAND CO: WILLIAMS, WEST Ida William married Martin Autry. Harold West married Ludie Newman. dates of b/m/d unknown. I have checked in the Sampson Courthouse for Birth and Death Certificates and found some Death Certificates. Could someone help or steer me in the right direction to find this information.
