Searching for Lockman, Allison, Seay, Williams, Smith, Brannon, Cagle, Bennett, Doughty/Daughty and allied lines in North Carolina. Any assistance appreciated.
It seems that this Andrew GIBSON was a Scot who settled in the "Little Germany" area of Old Orange (Now Alamance) Co/Guilford Co, NC. I am seeking information about any connections to other NC GIBSONs of the time, in particular the Joseph GIBSON of nearby Rockingham Co. I can find no connection. Andrew had a son named Joseph (the town of Gibsonville was named after him), but he was not the same Joseph. Andrew GIBSON had land next to the INGLE Mill, owned by German immigrants. Andrew married a Jane FREELAND, possible of the FREELANDs connected with the German Reformed Brick Church. Any information on the parents and or siblings of Andrew would be appreciated. The following is what I have on Andrew. The source for most of the following is "History of the Town of Gibsonville, 1971" by Melvin O. Wyrick. Andrew GIBSON was born in 1750. He became an apprentice to a silversmith in Edinborough, Scotland. When the silversmith immigrated in 1765, Andrew, age 15, came with him. This was against the wishes of Andrew's parents. They arrived in Charleston, SC. When he came of age, Andrew moved to Cheraw, SC and opened a store. About 1775 Andrew moved to the Brick Church area of Guilford and Orange (now Alamance) Counties, NC and operated a general store. I do not know why a Scot settled in "Little Germany". He met and married Jane FREELAND. My guess is that she was of the FREELANDs of Brick Church. At any rate, one of their children married a CLAPP of Brick Church. Looking for a connection with the CELLOUS surname. My great-grandfather, MAURICE CELLOUS LONG, born to DAVID LONG and SUSANNE KING. Maurice was born in southern Ohio ca. 1880 but I believe the family came from another state. The surname CELLOUS is not very common and I think it may be connected to Susanne's family. I know there were CELLOUS in NC in the 1860 census.
I saw a message about the Honeycutt's dated 1/4/2000. I tried to send a message to him but it would not go. From: EUZELIA@aol.com Company F, 1st Battalion N.C. Infantry This company was raised in Catawba County and enlisted at Catawba Station on August 14, 1861. After being mustered into service the company was assigned to the 1st Battalion N.C. Infantry and was designated Company F, afterwards Company E, of that unit. In March, 1862, the 1st Battalion was reorganized and became the 32 Regiment N.C. Troops. This company was transferred to the 32nd Regiment and was designated Company F. The company functioned thereafter as part of the 32nd Regiment, and its history for the remainder of the war is reported as a part of the regimental history. (Because the 1st Battalion N.C. Infantry was a provisional organization that had only a brief existence, rosters of the companies that comprized that unit have not been included in the *North Carolina Troops* series. The period during which the men of this company served in the 1st Battalion is covered in the following roster. For additional information concerning the history of the 1st Battalion, see page 1 of this volume and Volume III, page 65.) The information contained in the following roster was compiled from company muster rolls for August 14, 1861-December,1863, and August 31,1864-February 28,1865. No company must roll were found for January 1-August 30, 1864, or for March-April, 1865. Valuable information was obtained from primary sources such as the Roll of Honor, dischargee certificates, medical records, prisoner of war records, pension applications, and Civil War newspapers. Secondary sources such as postwar rosters cemetery records, and records of the United Daughters of the Confederacy also provided useful information. Officers Captains John Ray Peter F.
