    1. Re: [NCROOTS] lists
    2. Another excellent place to find mailing lists is Genealogy On the Internet. He has all the rootsweb lists plus other large sites lists. Organized by country, state, county, surname, you name it! When I do a new page for Firstmom's, that's where I go to find the appropriate list to join to let others know the new page is up. Here's the address: http://users.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_mail.html <A HREF="http://users.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_mail.html">Genealogy Resources on the Internet</A> Scroll down and pick a country, state or what-have-you. 1. [NCROOTS] Capps of Warren and Granville Counties NC
    2. Eunice Boucher
    3. I am looking for information on the Capps family who were in Warren County and Granville County NC (1760-1900). I am specifically looking for a will of Francis Capps who married Henrietta (maiden name unknown). I found a deed in which he gives his son Joshua 150 acres on Buffalo Creek (Granville County) in 1763. I have the wills of Joshua and John Capps who died in Warren County NC (1801 and 1805). Joshua and Hillary (Joshua's son) witnessed the will of John. I think Joshua and John were brothers but need concrete proof of it. Can anyone help with this puzzle? Thanks. 1. Re: [NCROOTS] BARR marriage records from Rowan county
    2. PhyllisCrothers
    3. Cindy and List: The Rowan Co. BARRs are not the same as the BARRS who settled in Greensboro area about 1750. I do not have the exact date of the Greensboro BARRs coming to US, have not been to the library to check on the book, "Gone to Georgia", but from a paragraph quoted to me from the book, I do not feel nor think they are the same, unless the second generation went to Rowan Co., and a different area than James BARR, b. 1720, Scotland, m. AGNES (?). Also heard from someone that James BARR was to hae said "No way are they part of my Family!" which of course COULD mean that they really were.<G> I am still looking for the 10 sons and 3 daughters of James and Agnes BARR were. Help????? and the children of James &Nancy ANTHONY BARR. More HELP??????????Hope the right person hears this yell. <G> There were also at least 4 different BARR families who came to US at different times up to 1868, probably more later. Some from the U, and BARE/BARRE from Germany. Thank you, Phyllis BARR-Chezem Crothers

    2. Oooops...sorry...I meant to do that ....thank you for reminding me. The great new search engine is < http://www.alltheweb.com > It has a search option for exact phrase so you don't ahve to try and guess which Boolean scheme the software engineer used. The guy who posted it on another list said that it searched 400 K pages as opposed to 250 K for AltaVista,,,,,,could be. But I was never able to search as well as I wasnted to because of the Boolean thing. This one lets you search in plain English...love that !! Happy hunting.....Malinda RLugowski@aol.com wrote: > In a message dated 1/15/2000 7:51:54 PM Eastern Standard Time, > mthiesse@swbell.net writes: > > Malinda, > > It would be very gracious of you to share this web site with the list. > > Thank you. > > Ruth in NC e-mail: RLugowski@aol.com > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > Subject: [NCROOTS] MARTAIN/SMITH & MORE > Resent-Date: Sat, 15 Jan 2000 16:50:37 -0800 (PST) > Resent-From: NCROOTS-L@rootsweb.com > Date: Sat, 15 Jan 2000 18:52:55 -0600 > From: mthiesse@swbell.net > To: NCROOTS-L@rootsweb.com > > I found a great new Search Engine (in my inbox...<grin>)...so I decided > to look around some more for Rev Samuel Powell Smith...and I found him > !! 2. Vern Berggren
    3. Thanks so very much for the link address and ALL the work that you did. I appreciate it very much. Living in Nebraska, limits my hands on reseach for Joseph Potter b. 1769 in ? N.C. I went to the surname list, and found someone that had put in a query in 1998 that is looking for another Potter (Benjamine). Sorry that I don't have any information for him, but now I know that I AM NOT the ONLY ONE looking for the NC Potters. My Potters had two sons, Ephriam (my family line) and Samuel. Wife was Lydia ? Marriage was ? Where in N.C. did they live? Any way, I was able to find other sources that I can use to try to find these Potter who at this moment seem to have lived on the moon in N.C. I hope that I will soon be able to write and tell you all that I have had success. Thanks again, I really appreciate all the work. Mary Berggren bergie@inebraska.com

    1. Re: [NCROOTS] lists
    2. The question concerning mailing lists, how to subscribe, unsubscribe, what states, cities, etc. is a question that is easy to answer. To find out the various mailing lists on Rootsweb, simply go to www.rootsweb.com Scroll down the page to Other Tools/Resources. Click on Mailing list index. On the index, click on United States. The states are listed on the left and the instructions on how to subscribe and unsubscribe are at the top of that page. Simply click on the state in question and you will find a listing of all the mailing lists on Roots Web for that state. This listing is a excellent resource and an good item to bookmark for future reference. Pat in Va.

    1. [NCROOTS] Davidson Co Rangers--Lt. Walkers Rangers for Territory South of the OHIo
    2. RICHARD CARTER
    3. Does anyone know who or what The Davidson County Rangers were. Does anyone know who and what Lieut Walkers Rangers were. Both are shown as for The territory South of The Ohio, so Iassume they were a band of Peace keepers or Indian Fighters due the time period. I am seeking information on a George NUTTERFIELD who signed on as a private in 1792. Where were they formed? Where did they recruit. I do know that George settled in Shelby Co, Ky as early as 1790. I am seeking any information. George is shown on FTM records as Revolutionary War 1780-1789, but, the only record I have, so far is with the 2 above units. I asume that the Davidson County referred is Davidson County Tn, as I dont know of another at that time. Or, it could have been the home of Lt Walker. I have tried Ky archives and Nashville archives, But, my experience is very Limited on records like these, so I probably didnt do it right.I have been seeking info on George for about 30 years, so, naturally, I would be thrilled and appreciative for any info.George is also shown as George NUTTERFEE/NUTTER, on various records, and married Nancy Stepp McWilliams June 1804 in Shelby Co Ky. His marriage to Urcilla Hampton 21 November 1810 is recorded in Rutherford County Marriage records. He served in the War of 1812 with the rank of Major. He was sheriff of Rutherford Co. from January 1809 to January 1814. He then served in the North Carolina General Assembly in 1817-1818. I have no idea where he went from Rutherford or where he died.
