Hi, Here's the URL I have for the National Archives. http://www.nara.gov/genealogy/genindex.html#1930 Just scroll down and you will find a civil war record link. I also copied some info provided there, just in case the url does not work. It follows below. Happy hunting, Caron To obtain Civil War military service and pension records by mail Paper copies of Civil War military service and pension records can be ordered by mail using one NATF Form 80 for each soldier and each type of file. You can obtain the NATF Form 80 by providing your name and mailing address to inquire@nara.gov. Be sure to specify "Form 80" and the number of forms you need. You can also obtain the NATF Form 80 by writing to: National Archives and Records Administration, Attn: NWDT1, 700 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20408-0001.
Hi Laura and Frankie and List members, I am sorry but it has been over 10 yrs. ago when I sent for the records. All I can tell you is that I sent to the National Archives for the records. The more information you can give them, such as Name, DOB, state living in at beginning of the war, etc. the better your chances are of getting the correct records. I hope that someone on the list can post the on-line URL for the National Archives as I believe it will have all the information that you will need to send for the records. I used to have the address---until my computer crashed----and I remember seeing a lot of information about how to send for records on the site. Hi Diane, I sent for my ancestor's CW records and got all kinds of information: dob, pob, fa. and ma.'s name, county where enlisted, physical description, etc. I even received copies of his roster records (these were slips of paper which told which regiment he was in, when, and where, how much pay he received, when he took leave, etc.). They are sort of like pay vouchers. It did not list his wife's name because he wasn't md. at the time. However, I would bet that it would have listed her if he had been since it did list his parent's names. It takes a while sometimes to get these records, but they are definitely worth getting. Oh, I only knew his name and where he was living at the beginning of the war. I knew that he was born in 1841 because of the census so I figured that any 20 yr. old was probably in the fighting and took a chance and asked if there were records. Good luck, Jean Hancock ----- Original Message ----- From: "Diane Johnson" <geraldine@intrstar.net> To: <NCROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 18, 2000 10:12 PM Subject: [NCROOTS] Need Answers About Records. > Can anybody out there tell me, what kind of info a man would given when he > enlisted in Oct. of 1861 in the North Carolina State Troops? A special thanks to Bill Autry and gbarbour(George and Willie) for help with James Jordan's marriage look-up. I wonder if some courthouse records burned for some counties in North Carolina during the civil war as I learned was the case for some courthouse records for some counties in South Carolina. Every day I learn more and more about history. Any how, thanks to the kind people who looked up the info. for me. Bonnie

Good morning, Below is a URL that was posted on GEN-MEDIEVAL-L@rootsweb.com which gives a brief overview of the people who were 1st persecuted by British monarchs (hanged, beheaded, etc) and later recognized and beatified by the church. I was stunned at how familiar so many of the names were....many of them appearing regularly on these lists. It gave new many to the term "religious persecution" to me. Enjoy, Malinda Jones "Margaret Pole was beatified (with 49 other English Martyrs) by Leo XIII, 29 December 1886. There is a list of the English martyrs and confessors in the Catholic Encyclopedia, though without their dates of beatification. It can be found at:" http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/05474a.htm
I find no record of a marriage between Campbell KING & Estell MCREA/MCCREE on any of the marriage cd's for NC/TN/VA, etc. I do find Campbell C. Hello: I have had many postings on many lists for above referenced information. Some have been irritated, Some have been interested, some had never heard of it, and many have offerred me much good information. Many have asked me to post what I find out. This posting is in response to those requests that I post My info. The U S Congress, in May of 1790, proclaimed the territory formerly claimed by North Carolina, That area which is today known as all of Tennessee, Northern Ga, Northern Alabama, and all of Mississippi, as THE TERRITORY OF US SOUTH OF THE RIVER OHIO. aka SOUTHWEST TERRITORY. The Rangers were formed in 1790, and served until 1796, when Tennessee became a state. At that time, the remainder became the TERRITORY of MISSISSIPPI The Rangers were apparently an organization which patrolled, and generally made themselves "useful". Apparently simular to a State Militia. This is all that I have found out at this time. I have received many helpful hints, and suggestions. For these I am very grateful. I am still looking for definite information on George NUTTERFIELD, who enlisted in Lt Walkers company of Rangers in 1792. I have received information from a lady who has a book on the Rangers, and does show George listed. I will keep you updated. Dick CarterDick Carter rcar37@prodigy.net
