Hi, I am seeking information about Henry Best who married Smithy Sherard, probably in either Wayne Co. or in Greene Co. I need the names, birthdates, deathdates etc of their children. Thanking you in advance. Zac
If any of the Campbell researchers have Andrew Campbell who married Mary B. Reed abt 1800 or Thomas Campbell who married Margaret "Polly" Reed , please get in touch with me....I come from that Reed line and I'd like to talk with you. Hey Lisa and others; I'm Baaaaak again. In "Abtracts of Deed Books 11-14 of Rowan Co NC 1786-1797" by James W. Kluttz, 1996, page 11: Deed Book 11, 9 August 1787. State Grant #1487 @50 sh per 100 A to Peter Miller, 150 A on Haregans Branch of Bear Creek adjoining ROBERT WATKINS. In this same book on page 633; John Williams born abt 1760 prob in Maryland came to Rowan Co NC abt 1804 with four other families and he married Elizabeth Barrett on Friday, 7 March, 1793 in Prince George Co. MD. He was thought to be the son of William Williams and Frances and he served in RW and War of 1812. His daughter, Elizabeth Williams born 7 Jan. 1807 in Davidson Co NC died 3 April 1859 in Pike Co IL buried Blue River Cemetery near a small town called Detroit. Elizabeth married Mr. Watkins in 1839. Only important if you have a wife and no surname for her. Lisa and others. In The Heritage Book of Rowan Co NC pages 146-147 are two maps that show Charles Campbell in Atwell Township. His neighbors are Henry and Paul Goodman, Dan Pethel, Lons Corriner, Cal Rose, Locke Stirewalt, Jacob Deal. Hope this helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lisa Grimes" <kcks@goldendale.net> To: <NCROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 03, 2000 4:06 PM Subject: [NCROOTS] Looking for CAMPBELL in NC Researchers > Hello all, > > I normally don't do such wide open postings -- but I need to have an > idea who is researching CAMPBELL in the Johnston, and Wake, County > areas. Diane-The following is all that I know about Johnston County. This is taken from the Johnston County website. There is no mention there of the name being different. Regards, Bill Autry Formation of Johnston County Johnston was formed in 1746 from Craven. It was named in honor of Gabriel Johnston, Governor of North Carolina, 1734-1752. It is in the eastern section of the state and is bounded by Wilson, Wayne, Sampson, Cumberland, Harnett, Wake and Nash counties. Hello all, I normally don't do such wide open postings -- but I need to have an idea who is researching CAMPBELL in the Johnston, and Wake, County areas. The time frame that I'm interested in is pre-1786. I have a group of CAMPBELL, intertwined with WATKINS, that I'm chasing after. I can identify them once they arrived in Oglethorpe Co. GA, but the familial connection has not been found there, and since it's proven that my WATKINS owned land in these two Counties, we're taking the time to dig for evidence that will connect the CAMPBELL's one to another. It has long been held that they were acquainted with one another long before their time spent in GA . . . so NC has to hold some amount of clues. These are what I'm hunting for. Hello all! Besides having OH and PA researcher's, the two MD researcher's I listed last month, and National Archives searchers, I also just listed an experienced New York Researcher on Firstmom's Genealogy Researcher's List and thought I would let you all know that he's available there (and will be for 3 years!) to help you, since many ancestors landed at NY and spent time there before moving on to other states such as NC. He has access to Courts, vital records, census, naturalization and Archives as well as genealogical society libraries. He just might find that brickwall that you've almost given up on! You can find out more about him, as well as searchers in other states and even Scotland, at: http://members.tripod.com/~KHuish/research.html Or if you can click in email: Firstmom's Genealogy Researcher's List This is an ongoing project started in Jan 1998 to bring researcher's together into one simple location. Hello all, I would like the 1830 census info for Lewis Anderson in Beaufort,Co.NC. Thanks in advance for your help! Debra
The weather in NC is devastating! I'm praying for my NC cousins and I'm not a religious person. Ann
Just wanted to thank everyone once again for their help on my question about the library. The story is kind of interesting, if you will allow me to share what happened. I went to see my family who presently resides in Stanly Co., but drove down for the weekend for the sole purpose of taking generation pictures with my new daughter and her great great grandfather and grandmother who live in Moore County. When I arrived on Friday, I called the library in Carthage (Moore Co.) to make sure they were open until 6 p.m. as stated on their website. They said they were closing at 3:30 p.m. instead because of the ice. It was almost 12 when I called, and it was an hour drive from Stanly County. I arrived in time, but was very flustered, and had my sister to help me pull family name files and books off the shelf while I look for the mirofilm census reports. We bookmarked some pages and I couldn't get the Microfilm machine to work. So the lady had to come and fix it, and finally she did. When I finally sat down to do my research, the power went out!! Which not only meant no research, but no copies. The power still wasn't on when I left, and I left empty handed. Needless to say, I was frustrated. But come to find out, my grandfather had 2 of the main books I was looking at, so I borrowed them. They were: Miscellaneous Ancient Records of Moore County, N.C. by Rassie E. Wicker A Guide to Moore County Cemeteries compiled by Anthony E. Parker These books gave me more information than I could have gotten in the time that I was there, so I was elated. If anyone is doing research and could use information from one of these books, I would be happy to oblige. The Ancient records book holds the 1790 and 1850 Census, plus land grants, etc. The Cemetery book helped me to nail down dates and spelling. Thanks again to all who helped me, maybe next time I can actually use it. LJ Brown Front Royal, VA Download NeoPlanet at http://www.neoplanet.com
