One of my ancestors was involved in a marriage bond in 1849, in Montgomery Co., NC, in which it states that "the amount of money being bound over unto the State of North Carolina, in the sum of Five Hundred Pounds, Current Money, etc., etc". Does anyone know what this means, since dollars were the "coin of the realm" at that time. I'm very curious - if anyone can help. Joyce Wolfe

Hello all! Happy to let you all know that I have a new email address listed for the Alabama researcher on Firstmom's Genealogy Researcher's List! It's actually a husband and wife team, and theyre ready to help you with those brick wall ancestors. Besides Alabama and US Census, they can also do searches for certain records of AL, KY, N.C., S.C., TN, and VA. These records include the book form deeds and wills for Mecklenburg Co. N.C. AND Mecklenburg Co. VA. As well as book form deeds and wills for most of the counties those counties were formed from. To get more information on the vast resources they have access to you can go to: http://members.tripod.com/~KHuish/research.html or if you can click in email: Firstmom's Genealogy Researcher's List Scroll down to Alabama's category. The List also includes other states as well as Scotland, you're sure to find someone to help you...if not, check back soon as new researchers have been being added to the list often. Good luck in your searches! Kathy

But give me a break! Your message was time stamped 10:31 PM last night, by which time I had shut down the computer for the night. I downloaded the overnight mail at 6:30 am this morning, over a hundred messages worth, but I've had quite a few other things to do in the meantime, including taking the dog to the vet, and I haven't read them all yet. If anyone else needs to contact me about list business, you can reach me either at my personal e-mail address (see my signature below) or at NCROOTS-admin@rootsweb.com Elizabeth Harris state coordinator, NCGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/
I'm sorry that I didn't mention that the white mall indian pertained to a woman. I have only suggestions that it was white male indian. Sorry everyone had to take the time to write to me that answer when I had forgotten to say that the white mall indian was a woman. Any other answers welcome. Thanks. Dee.
The Listowner for NCROOTS is Elizabeth Harris. She may be busy or away from her computer right now, but she will indeed get back to you. I can assure you that this is the correct information. I'm sorry. I should have said it referred to a woman, a white mall indian. Dee. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Brm307@aol.com> To: <deedovey@rica.net> Sent: February 06, 2000 10:16 PM Subject: Re: [NCROOTS] Cherokee Tribe named White Mall - possibly in NorthCarolina? > Could it be white male indian? >
Hello, Can anyone tell me if in aTuckahoe District in North Carolina that that might relate somehow to Tuckahoe Indians living there in the past or present? Sincerely, Dee Randall
I am looking for name of a tribe of the Cherokee that may be called, White Mall I have read a family statement that read that a family member was a descendant of the Cherokee, a white mall indian. I suppose one could interepret it to be White Hall or White Mill, but it probably would be in Virginia and probably between 1800 and 1830. I have searched for towns in Virginia that might have a similar name. I believe there is an old house in Virginia that is called White Hill, but I could find no connection or family that had lived in this house. Is there someone that has heard of this, or could give me a clue where to search. I wouldn't rule out North Carolina either. Thank you so much. Sincerely, Dee Randall
We are very pleased to announce the GRAND OPENING of the first website dealing specifically with the Loyalists of the American Revolution to combine genealogy, military history and living history. The On-Line Institute for Advanced Loyalist Studies (Royalprovincial.com) is the collaborative effort of Todd Braisted of New Jersey and Nan Cole of Illinois. Todd is an independent researcher with an extensive background in Loyalist military studies. Nan is a genealogist and researcher and hosts both a Loyalist and a Canadian genealogy chat group. This project was started in April of 1999 with the goal of providing detailed, accurate Loyalist information to anyone who might have an interest. The site is not intended to serve as an introduction to what a Loyalist is, but rather is a place for those who are seeking detailed, specific information about individual Loyalist regiments or soldiers. The site is broken down into several major areas: History, Military, Genealogy, Reenacting and Miscellaneous. Among the original information to be found is a complete listing of all known Loyalist units that existed between 1775 and 1784, and a chronological list of battles and engagements during the war, along with the Loyalist units that took part in each. There are hundreds of transcribed documents, including courts martials, muster rolls, orderly books, regimental correspondence, deserter descriptions, battle reports, newspaper accounts, songs, poems, memorials, land grant petitions, intelligence reports, clothing returns, church records, Black Loyalist materials, proclamations, recruiting notices, Rebel accounts of Loyalists, distributions, and women’s documents. Our on-line research address book provides addresses, hours of operation, phone numbers and website links to the major research centers for Loyalist manuscript materials and genealogies and will be expanded in the future to include additional repositories, churches, organizations and societies of interest to Loyalist researchers. In the Reenacting section you will be able to learn about Living History and the groups that portray the Loyalists today, see photos of the groups and of past events, and find out how to get in touch with the group of your choice. Plus much, much more… While the site currently contains over 1,000 pages of information, it is by no means complete. The amount of information planned for the future is more than double the amount currently on-line. So, if you do not find information on the individual or group you are looking for now, please stop back soon, as we will be updating things on an ongoing basis. You can also sign up to receive a free monthly notification of the new materials that have been added. To celebrate our grand opening, we will be conducting a special “Loyalist contest” on Monday, February 7th, our first day live. It costs nothing to enter and will give you a chance to test your knowledge (or just get lucky and guess right!) to win a small prize. Please stop by for details and enter! And while you are there, take a minute to sign our Guestbook or post a message or query on our Genealogy or History Message Boards. We look forward to greeting our visitors and assisting them with their Loyalist questions. Please follow this link/address to enter our site. Thanks! The Online Institute for Advanced Loyalist Studies http://www.royalprovincial.com/ Nan Cole & Todd Braisted
I posted a request earlier today for the List Owner or Manager, to contact me privately, as I had some information to share. I wanted to discuss copyright issues before posting the information.
