Schweitzer's very helpful guide to NC genealogy, deeds for Edgecombe and Bertie counties in the 1732-1746 period are filed in Halifax county, which was formed from Edgecombe in 1758. My guess on NS, SS, and BS would be north side, south side, and both sides. 1. [NCROOTS] Edith Newell?
    2. Margaret Sessions
    3. I found that my gggrandfather was married to Edith but do not know her surname. Bryant Newell and Edith were probably married in Cumberland County, NC ca 1850 Can anyone help me with this? A very nice person found him on the census but there was no other information where she found the info. I would like very much if someone could help me with this. Also, Hiram Newell of Duplin county I believe may have been a brother to Bryant Newell, a younger one. They were both on the census in 1850/60 but in different counties but, it seems that they were brothers. My ggrandfather, Edward Robert Newell had 2 boys and named one Hiram and one Bryant but these are younger than the ones on the NC census. thanks for any help. 3. I forgot who the lady was that needed a gaelic translation of a poem she had, but, I found someone who translated it for me so I am passing it on. I can't remember which list she was on but she wanted it for a wedding I believe. Here it is: Basically it translates to; People from home who are going around (Abroad) stop and listen to one who is distant keep the gaelic going for life each one will deliver the affection of the Bard and your home will be alive in God each day. >Fhir sa chladh ta 'dol ma'n cuairt >Stad is eisd ri guth bho'n s' >Cum a' Ghaidhlig suas ri d'bheo >Is a cuid bardachd's airde gloir >Do gach ni 'tha math thoir gradh >S bi tigh'n beo do Dhia gach latha. 1. [NCROOTS] Granville Co NC Deeds pre 1746 ?-Where are they?
    2. Loren Hoboy
    3. Can anyone tell me exactly where to look for deeds pre 1746, for land which later is found in Granville Co between 1746-1764 and then later in Warren Co (possibly Shocco District, but specifically NS of Shooco/Shocco Creek, and SS Great Shocco Creek and BS Little Shockoe Creek)? Also, can anyone tell me what NS, SS, or BS means ? My searching for deeds of this region. in what I assumed were the predecessor Counties of Edgecombe Co (LDS film 1732-1741) and Bertie Co 1721- found nothing . Where are deeds for Shocco/Shockoe/Shoco/Shccco Creek land, which I find after 1746 in Granville/Warren, to be found before 1746? Thank you. Loren

    1. [NCROOTS] Lemuel WILSON & Martha ALSTON, of VA & NC
    2. Lemuel WILSON (born perhaps about 1715) was a son of Willis Wilson and Mary (Chichester) Wilson, of Norfolk Co., VA. He married Sophia Lowery as his first wife. After her death, he married Martha ALSTON, 1752, in Chowan Co., NC. I wish to correspond with anyone researching this family. Lemuel Wilson's son, Willis Wilson, remained in Norfolk Co., VA, but their is suggestive evidence that Lemuel Wilson MAY have settled in Beaufort Co., NC. I wish to correspond with anyone researching this family. Your response is appreciated. C. Ward [email protected]

    3. Please do not remove me from your list. I have been receiving less than 10 messages a day since July 26. It seems that MSN's servers probably have been flooded with mail, possibly from a virus or worm getting into subscribers' address books. I am fortunately not one of those people. My system is clean. When I spoke with an MSN technician earlier today I was told they are aware of the problem and are working hard on solving it and restoring full service. They are documenting reports of trouble called in by subscribers and forwarding them immediately to the supervisors to help in identifying the problem and hopefully to achieve a restoration of service. I had two messages which I sent yesterday and the day before.returned to me with the message "Undeliverable. The server is full." Today the 8 messages I received consisted of 4 messages and 4 duplicates of those messages! Please do not unsubscribe me. And please attempt delivery of my mail. Service may be restored at any moment. Thanks for your assistance in this frustrating time! Sincerely, Virginia Brown [email protected]

    3. Hello, There used to be a site that collects Bible records and puts them online called Lefleur Genealogical Archives. In searching for it on the internet, I found links to it posted on pages all over the internet. The problem is that when I go to the site there is an "adults only" site at that URL instead. Does anyone know of a new (and G rated ) URL for the Lefleur Archives ? Thanks. 1. [NCROOTS] Abraham and Christopher HOBBS
    2. Mary Stephenson
    3. Abraham HOBBS b. abt 1790-1800 in North Carolina. Christopher HOBBS b. abt. 1766 in North Carolina. Can anybody shed any light on these 2 HOBBS men? I had thought Christopher Hobbs was the father of this Abraham, but it appears that Christopher Hobbs had been married previously to a "Mary"(?) and 6 children are known, but not to me. I was sent a BIO on Christopher, but. (I could only make out Isaac and Archibald, Joseph "Jefferson", ) He remarried in 1836-37 in Gallatin Co., Illinois to a Mathilda Fairchild. Abraham and Christopher Hobbs are together in Hardin Co., Illinois, along with Archibald Hobbs b. 1811, and an Isaac b.1801 , and several others. It is stated that Christopher was a Pioneer to Illinois. (such as several of my ancestors were) Christopher is not enumerated in N.C. census that I can find. Can anyone help me on Christopher or Abraham? I may be riding a dead horse here in chasing Christopher for Abraham's father. If I am I would like to know before chasing these Hobbs another 27 years!! Would anyone know who Christophers parents were? Thank you for any information and speculation on my problem. Mary [email protected]

    2. Greg and Dawn Bastounes
    3. Jehu and wife Alie had a son, Jesse, who died in the Civil War. However, in the 1920 census, they have a child (doesn't say what relation) named Jesse who is 9. This coincides with information a friend is researching...they say this Jesse born c. 1861 is the child of Jesse Goss and Ann Gilley. Does anyone have any information on this family?
