I had to get a copy of my husband's birth certificate for something, can't remember what now, and when I ordered it, they had none under his nme, but did have one under his birthdate and his parent's names. It seems that he was called Baby Boy on the birth certificate. At least they got the sex right. (G) And, the certificate was file 6 weeks after his birth because, I believe the doctor didn't think he was going to live, he had been born with the umbilical cord wrapped around him from the waist down, at home no less. Or else the doc was remiss in his paperwork, but i believe the prior. It does pay to get them, mine said I was born at 4:30 a.m. after all my life thinking I was born at 5:30 according to my mother, well, I was born at 4:30 a.m. EST and it was also 5:30 EWT which was like daylight savings time, stood for Eastern War Time since I was born during WWII. Pays to check it out. Now, I wonder, is there something remiss in the birth certificates I have that I am using for information for my research? I have no one that can tell me differently. %^( Margaret There is only one other alternative to getting older, and I'm not ready for that yet. I'm too busy diggin my roots and searching for more limbs to my tree. Will someone tell me the records that exist for Halifax County and how early. I am searching for records about 1743. Thank you. Gayle
I bet this is probably Tarawa Terrace. It is a military housing area that is actually part of Camp Lejeune, NC. It is near Jacksonville, NC. Just a guess! Hi, Just a short message to join this discussion. I work part time in a funeral home, and you would be very much surprised to see how confused many survivors are in giving the correct information about the deceased to put on the death certificate. They either don't know, make a guess or can't say. Within the last month we had a situation where the survivors even gave the Social Security number of the WIDOW of the deceased rather than his. Of course when we sent the form to the local Social Security office to be processed they notified us right away of the error. They also told us that we had been given the wrong birth date for the man--survivors gave us 1925, when actually it was 1922. What I am saying--DON'T blame the funeral home--make sure the right information is given to whomever is processing the death certificate, and make sure the person who gives this information is someone who can give the CORRECT statistics. It is very hard to correct info on a death certificate after it is processed by the state where the death occurred. In the above case we had to ask for an amended death certificate and since it was close to the time of death it was easily done. Birth Certificates AMEN to both examples (birth and death certificates). My grandmother died at a Convalescent Center just a few blocks from my mother's home and my home. Recently, I got a copy of her death certificate (about 8 years later) and was shocked to find that her name was correct, but they had her mother's first name and no last name. I got a picture of the tombstone and went to the Virginia Bureau of Vital Records to get the death certificate corrected. They said I had to have a copy of marriage license and a sworn affidavit from my mother to get it corrected. It took awhile, but I was successful. I found my grandfather's mother's name was incorrect on his marriage death certificate. Since she had been married several times and he is not here to verify, I'd have to take whatever documentation I have to court to get his death certificate corrected. That means hiring a lawyer, etc. During my many trips to the Bureau of Vital Statistics, I got copies of my birth certificate and my two brothers. In each case, my mother's maiden name was spelled differently; i.e., CARMACK, CORMACK, CORMOCK. Thank goodness, mine was correct. But I was told only my brothers could get their corrected. Neither are interested in doing so. Guess it is left up to us who are searching to continue to put the pieces together. I had a hard time finding my gr,grandfather's death cert. I finally went through every cert in that township and found that the information had been provided by the undertaker who had no connection to our family that I can find. He had his name listed as Nat instead of Nathaniel, his wife's name was listed as Lizzie instead of Elizabeth and the date of birth listed would have made him only 12 when his 1st child was born. The wrong mother's name was listed, I am almost positive. .About ten years ago I was back in North Carolina, I spent many hours bringing my Harrell family up to date. I found so many errors, as many of the births were reported by a mid wife or some other reason the information was incorrect. One I recall was a close cousin. Not only was her name incorrect on her birth certificate , but also the date of birth. I immediately contacted her and helped her get the information corrected. Two days after receiving the correction she collapsed at work. Just think what she would have had to go through with with the the wrong information on her birth certificate . I advise everyone to not only get their certificate but really check it out. Better be safe than sorry. Bettie >Do not believe every thing you read on an old birth certificate. From: Edith (Dawson) Beck - [email protected] - In response to Margaret Sessions' message about Bryant Newell and Edith, this may not mean a thing, Margaret, but in my Dawson family, similarities in names often make a connection. In this Dawson family, there is an Edith Bryant Dawson, b. 14 Nov. 1846 in Sampson Co. Her parents were Joseph Dawson and Sarah Ann Dawson (supposedly a cousin or niece of Joseph). Edith Bryant Dawson was named after her uncle, Burrell Dawson's wife, Edith B. Folsum.(B. is believed to be Bryant, and perhaps Edith B. Folsum's mother's maiden name). This may be confusing, but this may be telling us something. These early 1800's Dawson lived in the north section of Sampson Co.,---just a step over the Cumberland County line. There has been an Edith in each generation since then.in my Dawson line. (But no Newells that I know of.) This may be just a coincidence, but worth a mention, anyway. If you want anymore info on this Dawson line, let me know. M. Edith (Dawson) Beck (dau. of John Willliam Dawson, granddaughter of John Robert Dawson, great granddaughter of Joseph Dawson, great-great granddaughter of Joseph Dawson.) Researching: Dawson, Lasseter, Dees, Beck, Hall, Jones, from N.C.
On a couple lists I am on I have seen notes from folks looking for family that is "current" after 1920 or so. If they go to this e-mail address they can address this search also. [email protected] ask to join, then tell them whom you are looking for and where they might have been or be. It will go along with the geneology searches, but, the current families could possibly found via this list. Do not believe every thing you read on an old birth certificate. I was born on July 28,1929, in Gibson County , Tn. Delivered at home by the family M.D. After I was an adult I ordered a copy of my birth certificate from Nashville, Tn. The name was not correct, the date of birth was Aug. 28,1929. After several months I finally got my name and date of birth corrected. The sad part of it all , I was named for the family M.D. and still wear his name as a middle name????????? Hi All, I have an Addison that was listed in an Obit as being in Tanawa Terrace, North Carolina. Can anyone tell me what County this is in? Thanks A Bunch! Lora, Jax, Fla
My mother's birth certificate was a delayed one. She was born in 1928 and the certificate was made in 1945. It said the mother used the family Bible and gave a personal affadavit. But it does look like a birth certificate -- just doesn't have the time of birth listed.
