    2. Poor House Lady
    3. We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com We just posted a wonderful picture postcard of the Anson County Home, Wadesboro, N.C DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on OTHER STATES, then on NORTH CAROLINA on the table of states. Near the top of the page, under the painting, you will see the link (with a yellow NEW arrow). (NOTE: If you have visited the site recently, you may have to click on REFRESH on your browser to see the new information.) There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our (almost) monthly newletter (which you can do in the lower right corner of the homepage). The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me ... please do so off-list because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.) We hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)

    3. Hi all, I am new to this list and want to introduce myself and my line. My main line is PEARCE/PIERCE (maybe PRICE or PIERCEY, as some have suggested). This line is CHEROKEE that moved NC>VA?>TN. Allied surnames are BOLLING*BOWLING*BOLLAND*BOLLEN, COOK, SPARKS, FAULKNER*FALKNER*FALCONER maybe REDWINE Please e-mail me if you are researching Cherokee lines or these surnames, as I have no clue yet where to start in NC research (I've tracked them all over TN, but am having trouble moving research to VA and NC because they changed the spellings of their names). Thanks so much in advance, and I look forward to hearing from you, Lori Researching Pierce/Pearce, Gilliland/Gillian/Gilland/Gillam, Stokes, Cook, Sparks, Faulkner/Falkner, Bolling/Bowling/Bolland/Bollen/Bowls. 2. I am trying to locate the parents and siblings of Caleb Hope, born 1819 in NC. I don't even know what county to look for him in, and I have been searching for a long time. He married a Pamela Deal in 1843 in South Carolina and made a trip to TN before settling in AL. Their first known child was born in Tennessee. Caleb has a "G" in front of Caleb on some records, and there are land records that he made his mark for Caleb H. Hope. I would appreciate any help that the list can give me. The family moved to Texas in the late 1890s. Please give me your thoughts on where I should look next. Thank you, Bernice Hope Doyle

    3. Melvin, I don't know of any Peter McLeod, as far as I know, I don't know if my McLeod's were in Mississippi or not. There are so many different Alexander McLeod's that its difficult to determine who's who. All, I know about mine, is, he was born in 1770 in Scotland, and was in N.C. about 1810, and was married to a Margaret, and she was born in Scotland in 1790. They went to Pike Co. Ga., about 1819, and he died there in 1854. I need to find what his wife's maiden name was, and exactly where in N.C. they were located. Thanks, Becky

    3. Hello, I have posted before, but still looking for my Alexander McLeod. He was born in 1770 in Scotland, and came to N.C., about 1810. He was married to a Margaret, but don't know her maiden name, and she was born in 1790 in Scotland. The left N.C., around 1819, and went to Pike Co. Ga. and he died there in 1854. There is a possibility that he may have been in Moore Co., or Richmond Co, but don't for sure. Does any of this info fit the description for any Alexander McLeod in these counties or any other counties in N.C.? Their children were: Alexander Jr. William Sarah Angus Nancy Norman Murdoch. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Becky Carden, [email protected]
