    1. [NCROOTS] More POORHOUSE Information
    2. Poor House Lady
    3. We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com We just posted a wonderful picture postcard of the CABARRUS County Home, Wadesboro, N.C DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on OTHER STATES, then on NORTH CAROLINA on the table of states. Near the top of the page, under the painting, you will see the link (with a yellow NEW arrow). (NOTE: If you have visited the site recently, you may have to click on REFRESH on your browser to see the new information.) There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our (almost) monthly newletter (which you can do in the lower right corner of the homepage). The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me ... please do so off-list because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.) We hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady) ============================== Search over 1 Billion names at Ancestry.com! http://www.ancestry.com/rd/rwlist1.asp

    3. For list members, "beware" of posts from this address [email protected] Comes in as from "carrshep" and it contains bugs. My trusty Norton 2001 Internet Antivirus stopped it from getting into my PC, but wanted to alert others to it. The message is a reply to a message you posted recently and asks you to take a look at the attachment. Bob Carter Greensboro, NC

    3. I am trying, still, to locate my NEWELL family that was in NC in 1850 the earliest I have so far. Bryant NEWELL, 26, illiterate and Edith NEWELL also illiterate, had 3 children, Edward NEWELL my gggrandfather, being one of them. Is there any way that I can maybe find if Bryant and Edith were married? they would have married very young, Bryant being 17 when Edward was born.. How can I find what happened to Bryant not knowing his date of death, just his year of birth or approximate year anyway. Margaret There is only one other alternative to getting older, and I'm not ready for that yet. I'm too busy diggin my roots and searching for more limbs to my tree. Diggin for Stewart, McConnell, Inglis, Herring, MacFarlane, Jones, and others on paternal side, Addison,Wright,Newell,McDaniel,Foster,Renfro on maternal side and others. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

    2. John, Hubquarter Creek is in NE Warren County just north of what is now US highway 158, running into the Roanoke River - the part that is now called Gaston Lake. Near the source is a place-name Vaughan, maybe 5 miles from the Halifax County line. It has two prongs. On the DeLorme map is named only Hubquarter, the east prong. Maybe the west prong was and/or is called Little. DeLorme identifies the main body as part of "Lake Gaston" but I think theer was no such name earlier. It was the Raonoke River to the VA line. -- Merlin Berry > I am trying to decipher wording in a 1795 Warren County, NC will. 1. [NCROOTS] Need your help please, Randolph County, North Carolina
    2. Greetings from Florida, Need some help please, Ancestry does not have the census I need "online." Wouldn't you know! Sure am glad I made that purchase! I am looking for John Addison, would be listed with a Sarah. John Addison and Sarah had a son named John Addison. The son John, was born January 22, 1820, near Richmond, Preble County, Ohio. Father John, and wife Sarah, (it says in the biography) were from Randolph County, North Carolina. It further says, at the age of 7 years, he and his parents moved to Rush County, Indiana. I would really, really, like to know if son John had any brothers or sisters? Also, does it list where father John's parents were from? This would be so much help, I have mounds of paper, and years of aggravation! If I can help with any information in Indiana, I have the Indiana Vital Records CD collection, I would be more than happy to search any names you have for your help with this Addison family of mine! Thanks so much. Lora, Jax, Fla

    2. Teresa
    3. Hello, this note is being sent to my entire address book, which seems to include everyone I have ever sent an email to. Though my computer is clean now, for a brief period this evening, I had the W32 Sircam worm, and although I cleaned it quickly, I don't know how much time the worm needs to get into the address book and start sending out mail. More info and a download for cleaning this bug out can by found at http://symantec.com The program will check your computer and clean it if the bug is found. I hope I didn't infect anyone and I apologize if I did. The attachments come with messages like " I need your advice on this" and other innocuous sayings. Another subject might be "Career Goals". Any real attachment I would send out would have a surname or other genealogy related subject line and you would most likely be expecting it.
