Does anyone have him listed in their genealogy? He was married to my mother's aunt, and they moved to Kennette Square, PA Dawn Sliver Bastounes "He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings." Psalm 40:2 KJV 1611

I got a note from Hunting for Bears and found that there is a Bryant WRIGHT in Cumberland County, but he must be Hiram WRIGHT's father. How would I find this out? The ages are right, the dates are right, the place is right. Also I need to find a marriage bond or certificate to find out if indeed these are the right line of mine. How do I go about doing that? Bryant WRIGHT would have been probably in the 1820,30, 40 and 50 census for Cumberland County. Does someone have access to these census'? If I could locate him with a son named Hiram then I would have my line and also I would be able to find where Bryant came from. Also, one other ?? when did Carolina split to become North C and South C? Margaret There is only one other alternative to getting older, and I'm not ready for that yet. I'm too busy diggin my roots and searching for more limbs to my tree. Diggin for Stewart, McConnell, Inglis, Herring, MacFarlane, Jones, and others on paternal side, Addison,Wright,Newell,McDaniel,Foster,Renfro on maternal side and others. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
After years of trying, I have hit an absolute road block with my gr. grandparents. Capitola Beatrice Wood b. 12-24-1861 Rockingham, (Richmond Co.)NC d. 1904 Wilmington, (New Hanover )NC (abt. age 42) she was predeceased by her husband Stephen Byron Dudley b. 1859 Wilmington, (New Hanover) NC d. 1894 Wilmington, (New Hanover) NC (abt. age 35) In 1900 Capitola was listed as living at 611 S. 2nd Street, Wilmington. She was very active in the Methodist Church. Apparently went by either her first or middle name. I have searched the 1870 Census for the entire state to no avail. What I did notice though was a lot of Wood children living with other families. It has been suggested to me that Stephen was the son of Christopher Dudley. The 1880 New Hanover Co. Census gives his age as 21 and married, on the 1870 New Hanover Co. census I found a Stephen living with Crist Dudley as age 14, and on 1860 New Hanover Co. census found a Steve living with a C.C. Dudley as age 5. These are the only Steve/Stephen's I was able to find in the whole county. The C.C. Dudley (1860) is listed as 33, with wife Louisa age 31, along with Steve age 5 and a sister Martha age 3. On the 1870 Census Crist Dudley has no spouse listed, with children listed as Stephen age 14, Martha age 12, Margaret (?dtr) age 10, and Lucy age 4. It does appear that C.C. Dudley and Crist Dudley are one and the same, but leaves me wondering if this is the correct Stephen. I have seen so many posts from other trying to determine between all the different Christopher's and Stephen's that it is overwhelming. I would greatly appreciate any information anyone may have on anyone from this family. Regards, Barb Wilson Rezac
Margaret asked, >Also, one other ?? when did Carolina split to become North C and South C? > 1712 was the official date, but actually they had separate governments well before that. Early on, there were settlers in northeastern NC near the Virginia border, and settlers in what is now South Carolina, but very few in between, so they pretty much operated as separate colonies from the beginning. I need information on Doshie HOUSE. She is my Greatgrandmother. On the 1880 and 1910 Tennessee census it shows that her first name is Thadercia. The funeral home record of my Grandfather James Edgar EDMISTON says his Mothers name is Doshie HOUSE. Could these two be the same person? The 1880 census shows Thadercia's birthplace as North Carolina and her age was 21 years old. On the 1910 census it shows her age 53 years old. Thank you, Bobby
You should be able to reach the Duke Libraries Online Catalog at www.lib.duke.edu/ I've used the online catalog prior to visiting the Perkins Library on several occasions to help narrow down some of the items I wanted to view. Their site should answer some of the questions you may have or give you the contact information you need. Jacqueline Tilley Wilkerson

I am looking for information on GEORGE MOORE and his family. His wife was Elizabeth. From what info I have they were born in NC but I do not know where. They had 5 children: John b- 20 Mar 1796 William Henry- b 7 Sep 1798 Clarissa b- 18 April 1802 Eliza Ann- b 21 Sep 1813 Willis A.P. b- 31 Sep 1815 >From what I have found, John died in 1827 in Lawrence, MS. Clarissa died in 1833 in Raymond, MS. So they were in MS for about, I am guessing, 10 years. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Jean
Helen Leary, in her North Carolina Research: Genealogy and Local History, mentions (p 324-5) "...between 1665 and the first survey in 1728 of the dividing line between Virginia and Carolina, numerous Virginia patents were issued for land thought to be in Virginia but later found to be in North Carolina." She adds that "special attention should be given to tracts identified as 'lying and being in the Upper Parish of Nansemond (Virginia).' That designation is usually a good indication that the land is now in North Carolina." Carol McGinnis, in her Virginia Genealogy: Sources and Resources, remarks, under the Nansemond County entry in the chapter "Counties and Their Records" (p 191), "a collection of manuscripts dealing almost entirely with Nansemond County is located in the Manuscript Department of the Duke University Library, Durham, NC," and a footnote attributes this to an article in the Virginia Genealogist, Vol. 20-4 (Oct-Dec 1976), p 243, entitled "Nansemond County Gleanings", by Virginia Pope Livingston. I can find this article, and plan to write Duke; but in the meantime I'm wondering if there is a connection between these two references: that is, are the Nansemond grants that were actually in North Carolina to be found in the Duke collections? Has anyone dealt with the Duke material, and, if so, of what does it consist? Nansemond is difficult to research due to records loss. Thanks, John Ottinger

This may have been already covered, but since I've only just seen reference to the subject, I'll take a chance on repetition. The "Genealogical Abstracts from 18the-Century Virginia Newspapers" by Robert K. Headley, Jr. pub by Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. 1987 Baltimore, MD includes information from over 7100 issues of eighty-one 18th-century newspapers, according to the introduction.
