Lori wrote Hi all, I have a new name to research: Has anyone seen BLURTON and PIERCE*PEARCE in their research? This line moved NC>TN. The name Henry Blurton was also familiar to me in Johnston County as I have worked on locating the Green's Path, an ancient Indian trail that runs through here. He received a NC State grant of 200 acres in 1779 near Wilson's Mills. He soon sold the property. If this works out let me know and I will tell you more. Plenty of early Pierces/Pearces also here. Does any one have any knowledege of this early ship that landed from England? HD Porter [email protected]
Thanks for your reply, Doris .. I doubt it, though, since the tankard would have been worth a very large amount of money in 1722 -- perhaps thousands of dollars in today's terms. It would have been like giving someone an engraved Tiffany punchbowl today. Only the richest Londoners owned such items. So I think it could only have been purchased by persons who were also major investors in the new colony: ie, shipowners. Hi, has anyone ever heard of two ships called the Mary and Mariane that apparently brought settlers from England to North Carolina in the 1720s or 1730s? I'm inquiring because someone I know has a large silver tankard, made in London in 1722, with this inscription: "The gift of ye Owners of ye Mary & Mariane To Drink ye Prosperity of North Carolina." Apparently this was given to some colonists setting out for America -- and they must have been fairly important colonists to be given such an expensive parting gift -- to take with them on their journey. Any help or leads that could be offered will be much appreciated. thanks Adam
This is just a guess, but could it be a gift from a tavern owner in England? I want to inform everyone of this new site. Subj: Re: (no subject) Date: 8/27/2001 1:46:54 AM Eastern Daylight Time From: [email protected] (Ken Hollingsworth) To: [email protected] Hey Bobby, Ok, finally got you something to look at. Go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~mississi/ and type in vr on the end of that URL, and see what I came up with. This isn't linked as yet because I wanted you to view it first. Let me know if you can think of anything I need to add or change on it. One thing I noticed, is on two of the Death Certificates, they have cut out the cause of death. But, on Paul's DC, it isn't. If you would like that part cut out, I can probably do that. Just let me know. I'll wait for your opinions. If you like what you see, feel free to announce it on the MS-L, inviting everyone to submit any forms they might have. Ken
Hi all, Is anyone researching Cherokee PIERCE*PEARCE lines from NC? It might also be possible that the spelling was originally PERRY. This line left NC in the early to mid 1800s. I found them in TN in 1853, and I think they might have been in VA for a while. Possible allied surnames: Pierce*Pearce*Perry Cook*Cooke Faulkener*Falkner*Falconer Bolling*Bowling*Bollin*Bolland Oakley Spencer If ANYTHING looks even remotely familiar, please send an e-mail, as I have no clue where to go from TN 1853. Any thoughts or advice is so much welcome!! Thanks in advance, Researching Pierce/Pearce, Cook, DeShazo, Simons, Gilliland/Gillian/Gilland/Gillam, Stokes, Sparks, Faulkner/Falkner, Bolling/Bowling/Bolland/Bollen/Bowls.
