    2. Collier
    3. Teresa, I notice that you put John Collier who was married to Sarah Horton in the Surry County Colliers as a son of Joseph and Jane (Halso) Collier. You should look at Joseph Collier's will. He left his son John 100 acres of land "where he now liveth -- Caleb Ellis Line-- In Deed Book 8, pg. 775 dated 7 Dec. 1738 - we find - John Collier of the Province of North Carolina, Bertie Precinct-- sold to Henry Berry--- 100 acres of land, part of a certain tract of land granted to his father--- willed by Joseph Collier to his son, John Collier--beginning at a pocosin -Cabel Ellis Line-- Signed John Collier Note Cabel Ellis Line in both the will and the deed transfer. Also that his John Collier lived in North Carolina, Bertie Precinct in 1738. Now look at Deed Book K, Pg. 122 Brunswick Co., VA dated 30 Nov. 1741. William Gower and his wife of Bru. County sold John Collier of PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, VA 200 acres of land on the North side of Three Creek, Reedy Branch- John Jackson line -----. This John Collier's wife was Sarah Horton. They lived on this land until John died in 1768, We do not know who this John's parents were. We did a lot of work on the Surry Families when we were compiling the book we wrote in 1991 "Some Collier Families Decendants of John Collier and Sarah Horton-1741-1991" I still don't know who our John Collier's parents were. I wish I did. He and Sarah are two of my GGG Grandparents. I hope the above may help you. Teresa, I am aware of the work Paul Arnot did on the Collier Family. I have two copies of his work written at different times. I believe he was wrong placing John Collier with a wife, Sarah Horton in the Surry County Collier Family. 3. Elizabeth, I'm sorry that you felt compelled to post an equally irrelevant NCROOTS message to the mailing list. What about NCROOTS can anyone learn from your message? The only thing it conveys to me is intolerance for others. "Ann" may be guilty of posting a single "off topic" message to the mailing list but at least her posting carried valuable information that is relevant for all American citizens. I think her posting may be an exercise of free speech "without a NCROOTS permit" and I suppose we should all thank you for serving as our thought police but frankly I'm very thankful for the information that she posted. It certainly contains just as much NCROOTS information as your snippy, and rather rude, posting. 1. [NCROOTS] Social Security
    2. ann
    3. Social Security This is worth reading, short and to the point! Our Senators/Congressmen do not pay into Social Security, and, therefore they do not collect from it. Social Security benefits were not suitable for them. They felt they should have a special plan. Many years ago they voted in their benefit plan. In more recent years, no congress person has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan. For all practical purposes, their plan works like this: When they retire no matter how long they have been in office, they continue to draw their same pay until they die, except it may be increased from time to time by the cost-of-living adjustments. For example, former Senator Bill Bradley (New Jersey) and his wife may be expected to draw $7,900,000.00 over an average life span, with Mrs. Bradley drawing $275,000.00 during the last year of her life. Their cost for this excellent plan is "0," nada, zilch. This little perk they voted in for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. Our tax dollars at work! Social Security, which you and I pay into every payday for our own retirement, with an equal amount matched by our employer, we can expect to get an average of $1,000 per month. Or, we would have to collect our benefits for 68 years and 1 month to equal the Bradley's benefits. Imagine for a moment that you could structure a retirement plan so desirable, a retirement plan that worked so well, that Railroad Employees, Postal Workers, and others who were not in the plan would clamor to be included. This is how good Social Security could be, if only one small change was made. That change would be to jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan out from under the Senators/Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us. Watch how fast they fix it!!! If enough people receive this maybe a seed will be planted, and maybe good changes will evolve. Don't forget, our girl, Hillary Rodham Clinton, thanks to the infinite wisdom of New York State voters, now comes under this Congressional Retirement Plan. Talking about the Clinton's, it's common knowledge that, in order for her to establish NYS residency, they purchased a million + house in upscale Chappaqua, NY. Makes sense. Now, they are entitled to Secret Service protection for life. Still makes sense. Here is where it becomes interesting. A residency had to be built in order to house the Secret Service agents. The Clinton's now charge the Secret Service rent for the use of said residence and that rent is just about equal to their mortgage payment, meaning that we, the tax payers, are paying the Clinton's mortgage and it's all perfectly legal. You gotta luv it. Is Everybody Happy?????????
