Once again, if anyone has received a virus that appears to have come from an NCROOTS reader, let me know privately. There's nothing I can do about Pat's problem, of course, except to extend my sympathies to her! If you need to discuss this further, please e-mail Pat privately also so we can get back to genealogical discussion on the list. Thanks! -- Elizabeth Harris [email protected] NCGenWeb project: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/ Winston-Salem NC area genealogy: http://users.erols.com/fmoran/
Wanda I hope you are right. I put the !000 at the top of my address book. I am on RoadRunner and I have received several messages this week from people I don't know, there was no subject, no message, just an attachment which I immedidately deleted and then emptied my trash can. I have received several that I feel sure were not sent by the person Whose name was on them. I had a bunch that contained a Virus. If there is an underscore before the return address, you can bet it is a virus. My Grandau went thru this a couple of years ago. It is a password stealing virus that send to every one but you. You can put !000 at the top of yur address book and no one is supposed to be able to get in. Wanda
Hi Researchers, I've posted a couple of cemetery submissions are posted to http://www.rootsweb.com/~nccumber/guycemetery.htm and http://www.rootsweb.com/~nccumber/pleasantgrcem.htm Thanks! Myrtle
Thanks to all of you for responding. It has given me a little lift but also pain to know that this has happened to many others. Wish I knew how to stop it. Last night about eight o clock I tried to access AOL and my password was invalid and it gave me a number to call. I got through to them and was informed that over nine hundred newsletters went out in my name and asked did I do this. I don't have this many in my address book or on all my group lists. I then checked my sent mail and had about twenty e mails that were listed. None of these were in my address book. These started at 10:25:35 AM EST and the last one was at 3:03:11 P. M. EST. I do not go into chat rooms and I haven't download anything in over four weeks or more. I send out very few queries to the lists that I belong to. 99% of my computer work is genealogy and about 1% to writing messages to my children. All the rest is of line. My computer is clean of viruses and I have had no problems with it. This is indeed a mystery to me. I am trying to send these twenty or so people a message explaining what has happened but I have no record of the others. These addressees that I have are the ones starting with P and R. I am a senior citizen with a clean heart and a Clean mouth and I do enjoy researching my family tree and meeting new kin, kissing kin and friends. History is my calling and now someone who is a thief, a mongrel, and to me is no better than a terrorist has tried to smear my name. And to that person I say the following: I shall pray for you for you are indeed in need of prayer. To try to steal a person, s good name is worse than stealing his money. May God have mercy on you for the hurt and damage you cause other people. I want to thank everyone again who has responded and I thank the list Manager for allowing me to send this E. Mail. For indeed we all need to be aware what can and does happen when we least expect it. May God Bless all of you Pat
Today over 900 newsletter went out in my name. The subject is something that is very discussing to me. If you received this letter in my name please believe me I did not sent it. I am very upset that some low life would do this to those of us who are not in this sort of thing. Please, I had nothing to do with it and cannot explain how this has happened as my password to get on AOL is very private to me and no one has it and no one uses my computer but me. Thanks you Pat in FL
I am trying to find out if this Gentlemen might have had a daughter who married a WHITE: EDWARD ALLEN FRANKLIN COUNTY PRIVATE NORTH CAROLINA CONTINENTAL $60.00 ANNUAL ALLOWANCE $180.00 AMOUNT RECEIVED MARCH 8, 1833 PENSION STARTED AGE 75 My GGgrandfather Edward Allen White was born in NC. Mother always said he was named after his Mother's family.... He was in Georgia February 07, 1841 when he married Edith Haney. I am going to assume he was about age 20... making him born c1820...With children not named on the census, and no knowledge of the county of his birth, and no parent names, I have quite the challenge. In November 1828 Robeson County, NC, issued a bond for the marriage of Daniel C. CALHOUN and Christian D. MCINNIS. Daniel was born bet. 1790 and 1800, location unknown, and died October 1838 in Richmond County, NC. Christian was born abt 1795, location unknown, and died in April 1858, Richmond County, NC. Daniel and Christian had two daughters. The first was Catherine, who was born abt 1830, Richmond Co, and died childless bet. 1864 and 1866. She married William Patterson. The second was Mary Jane, born August 31, 1832 and died February 15, 1892, Richmond Co, NC. She married Malcolm Bethune STEWART, and they had three children: Anna Jane, Catherine, and Robert L. The life stories of these individuals are sad ones, filled with many tragedies. I have a great deal of information about the succeeding generations, but have been completely unable to learn anything about the parents or siblings of Daniel C. CALHOUN, Christian D. MCINNIS, or Malcolm Bethune STEWART. While I mentioned that I do not know the birth locations of Daniel or Christian, I do not believe they were first generation Americans. I am convinced that their parents resided in NC. I also believe that Daniel had a younger brother or cousin named John Calhoun, not to be confused with John C. Calhoun, the SC statesman. Malcolm served in Co E 38th NC Inf, CSA, and was wounded in the leg at Frayser's Farm, VA in 1862. Malcolm may have had a relative (a brother?) named Alexander Stewart. If any one can add any information at all, I would be most grateful.
Brenda of the Civil War data base, I tried to access your data base looking for my ancestors but it only gave me part of the alphabet, i.e. looking for Newell, I only got to Nee and then could go no further in my searches. Also, on the free searches thru Ancestry.com I found that each time I tried to do a search I got the window stating I needed to redo my membership. I thought the searches were free, but, alas, they are no long free with Ancestry. I do not have the funds to join this year but apparently can't access any of the sites, free or not. Margaret I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free and I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me and I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today cause there ain't no doubt I love this land, God Bless AMerica. by L E E G R E E N W O O D _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

We have made many updates to our web site at: www.geocities.com/bjhughes.geo/ This Sutton lineage runs from c1600 to Today. Originating from England, then to NC, MA, NJ, CT, MD, OH, VA, PA and elsewhere. If you've not been able to make a connection into a Sutton lineage please take a look at our web page. We have lineages, documentation, queries, burials, etc. Additions and corrections are always welcome here. We also have the Sutton Burial Sites pages. These pages are for any all Suttons buried anywhere. Hopefully through these pages researchers will be able to locate some of their long lost Sutton ancestors. >From your list manager: As if we didn't have viruses enough, I've gotten an alert this morning about yet another one. The diagnostic feature of this one is a message that reads --- Subject: Hi Body: How are you ? When I saw this screen saver, I immediately thought about you I am in a harry, I promise you will love it! Attachment: GONE.SCR --- This one is reportedly very destructive. I haven't seen it yet myself, but in the interest of protecting this list, I thought I should go ahead with an announcement. As with BadTrans and any other virus, I will move any subscriber transmitting this one to Digest mode, and will send him or her a notification. Therefore 1) If you're infected, clean up your system immediately. McAfee's site for cleanup instructions is http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=2639 2) If you receive the virus from someone who is likely to be an NCROOTS subscriber, please let me know (PRIVATELY). The new variant of the Badtrans virus continues to be widespread. Messages containing it come in two forms, one with no subject line and the other appearing to be a response to a previously posted message. To cut down on at least some transmission by the latter route, I am instituting a new policy today. Any subscriber of NCROOTS-L who appears to be transmitting this virus will be moved to "digest-mode" subscription status. Attempts by the infected computer to reply to such messages will just end up in my mailbox as errors, and will not spread to other users. I will also send the infected subscriber an alert message and information on how to remove the virus. Again, if anyone receives a suspicious e-mail message, containing an attachment with the extensions .scr or .pif, and having an underscore (_) preceding the sender's e-mail address, please let me know. You can forward the whole message to me if you like; I use a Macintosh and I won't be infected. Thanks again for your help! Let's get back to North Carolina genealogy now.
