The cover sheet to the will states "Capt. Hugh Parks" "North Carolina Wills: A testator Index: 1665-1900" by Thornton W. Mitchell Library of Congress #92-72852 Hugh Parks, County #65 is Mecklenburg Co., NC Date: 1830 Will Book F #31 original copy is in the archives of North Carolina This will was drawn up 12-25-1828. It is signed Jan. 30, 1829 y D. McDonald; Thomas McDonald; John Alexander; John Kathcart (this is what the names appeared to be from my reading) >From reading the this will, we see that Hugh Parks mentions his wife Mary Parks. I believe this to be Mary Davis Parks. He mentions his slaves: 1. Mingo 2. Rhoda 3. Isaac 4. Jack 5. Silvey They are to be emancipated upon the death of Mary Parks. He mentions a Grist Mill and Pond, near the DAM, and property owned by Andrew D. Parks. I do not know the relaitionship of Andrew. ?? He mentions a yearly payment to H. McDowell. He mentions his grandson George Herald Parks, also his grandaughter Sarah Hopkin Parks. He mentions a son William N. Parks, granting 1 share of the Catawba Navigation Co. This will is attested by: J. W. Herson (the first four leters of the surname are very hard to make out) MY NOTE: Hugh Parks may have other children, not named in this will. Due to the fact he mentions"...my children..." I believe this Hugh Parks is the Revolutionary War Veteran who was granted Land by the Federal Government for services rendered in the war. "Rev. War Bounty Land Grants" by Lloyd DeWitt Bockstruck, 1996 Hugh Parks, NC, Private, for service thru 1783, granted May 26, 1784, 640 acres. Please write back with any connections or info, Lillian Kathleen Martin

I have a book that I had bought that was done by Lawrence "Larry" King. It's got 12 generations of Rectors, and in this book is some information on the Fischback family. It's not a whole lot, but it may be of some help to someone who might need it. If anyone does, just let me know & I'll give it to you. -- Leanne C. Evans http://www.1ce.net http://www.rootdigger.net
My ancestor is John Swindle, Jr. of Ashe Co NC and Grayson Co., VA. One of his daughters was Lucy Swindle b. 1808 Ashe Co., NC. She is also the sister of Mrs. James S. Rector of Grayson Co., VA. She married Dr. Stephen L. Landreth ,Jr. of Ashe Co., NC. b. 6-30-1815 Ashe Co., NC d. 5-19-1898. Lucy Swindle Landreth is buried on the Landreth Plantation, at Ashe Co., NC. Dr. Stevie was the son of Stephen L. Landreth, Sr. b. 1766 VA d. 1857 Ashe Co., NC His mother was Jane Creek b. 1785 VA. They married 1814 NC. The father of Stephen L. Landreth, Sr was William Landreth, who had come to Ashe Co. NC from Augusta Co., VA. I believe he is the man who established this Landreth family firmly in Ashe Co., NC. Dr. Stevie and Lucy had the following children: 1. Benson Landreth m. Drenna Lou Edwards 2. Issac Landreth m. Betty 3. Jane Landreth m. Haywood Edwards 4. Mae Landreth m. Columbus Sherman Edwards 5. James Landreth 6. Martha Landreth The above children are shown on the 1850 Ashe Co census. Also shown living in with the Landreth household is: John Wesley Swindle, 22yrs., laborer, He is the son of Elizabeth Swindle, who is the sister of Lucy Swindle Landreth. I still have alot of work to do on this family. If you are related, please write back. Lillian Kathleen Martin

A book entitled Abstracts of land entries, Duplin Co. No. Carolina 1778-1795 was written by A.B. Pruitt and published in Rocky Mount N.C in 1990. Does anyone know how to contact this person, or does anyone own the book ? Wanda
We're looking for information about a Johnny Treadway/Treadaway, who may have fathered a child in or near Burlington (Alamance County) North Carolina, in 1948. It is said that he left the mother, Ruby Marcum, either just before or after the birth of her little girl, Rebecca. He's said to have gone to California. All of this information is purely anecdotal. We aren't sure whether or not they were ever married, but we think not. We don't know how old Johnny Treadway may have been. If he's still living, we aren't interested in contacting him -- we only want to find some information about Rebecca's ancestral family. If anyone has facts or speculation that should remain private, I can be reached at my email address -- tambaymar@aol.com -- and you may be assured that I will respect any request for confidentiality. I've been at this a long time, and I'm a reputable genealogist. We'll be grateful for any assistance that anyone can provide. Hi Lilly, Have you tired posting to Jeff Weaver's forum: New River History List? How about the Grayson Co VA list on roots web? I have Taliaferro in my line, I suspect Tolliver could be Taliaferro, and you will find Tolliver on Wilkes Co NC tax lists from about 1780 on. Rectors came to Grayson Co VA from the Northern Neck of VA, and if my memory serves my right, they were allied with Marr, Fishback and perhaps Holder. The Farmers must stem from Michael Farmer in Grayson Co VA, I have not figured his lineage out yet. COX, if they were in Ashe Co then they were related to Joshua Cox and family from PA, who migrated to Surry Co NC and Montgomery Co VA area by the mid 1760's. The Cox family in Ashe Co also intermarried with HARDIN. WARD and BLEVINS, they have been allied since the 1770's. FORTNER could be Forkner.
